Months pass for Arthur as he grows and develops into a zygote and then an embryo, and finally into a fully developed infant. He was still a he, he could sense--though why he should be worried about that, he was completely clueless. During his development, Arthur had felt parts of his memories fade--at first he'd been panicked by such a thing when he'd realized it, but the more he was developing into the child he was becoming, the young man he'd been was fading away--and with it went that worry, and just as he felt his world around him begin to press on him, forcing him to leave the warm and safe comfort of the womb he'd been developing in the last nine months, and as his head was beginning to crown, the last vestige of his former self faded from memory--his name.
He was born screaming in a glade of the fay world, where his nymph of a mother had chosen for her lying in. After he had been severed from the placenta that had given him his life, he was washed in a nearby pool, dried and given to his mother to nurse. After he had had his fill he was burped and then given to a satyr--who he felt some connection with, but he couldn't explain how he did, or why, but he felt it nevertheless.
"Hello Aran... my son. You will grow up to be a shy and sensitive boy... wanting desperately to put yourself out there, but unable to do so due to crippling self-consciousness and a fear of making a fool of yourself in front of everyone. But fear not... you will have other gifts, other talents, and other loves to discover. You may not be a charismatic or particularly physically built... but you will discover the talents and gifts of your former life that you'd never invested much or any time in discovering about yourself. In one way, Aran, you should be thanking your old man. I'm freeing you from the expectations of being young, charming, and handsome, in favor of finding that inner quality that lasts longer than looks... and one day you will learn to appreciate it on your own, and thank me for being such a good Dad to you... and when you do all your memories from your past life will be returned to you... but that is for the future. Where you go with your life after discovering your true self, Aran, is up to you."
And Aran closed his eyes, the magic taking root in his body as he and his father both glowed as the gift of freedom his father had given him was received.
