Derrick was starting to realize that was the truth. He could feel his stretched-out skin, his eyes were almost touching the ground and he his tail was now long and straight with a tuft of black hair on the end. Derrick looked down at his stubby legs and big, bulging eyes. His arms and shoulders were more sensitized than he could have ever imagined.
"I'm a jackass," he said to himself.
Derrick heard the girl's footsteps fade and then he let out a long sigh. He smelled the feed and hay, but also something else. It was something familiar, but he couldn't quite place it. All he could think of was the feeling.
"Hee Haw," he said, relishing the almost magical tingles running up and down his arms and legs.
After several minutes of enjoying the new and strange sensations running through his body, Derrick reached up a hand and began petting his shoulder. He felt strange and foreign, but in a way that was comfortable and enjoyable. He felt something else on his hands and looked to see a coating of white fat over the tips of his fingers.
"Ohhhh," he said as he began petting the side of his neck.
Derrick could feel his fingers getting slightly numb, but he didn't mind. He could feel the muscles under his skin vibrating, a strange sensation that he first attributed to getting used to having such short arms, but then he thought he was mistaken. The aftershocks of the unfamiliar feeling crept up his shoulders and then down his back as Derrick's feet shifted and his toes wiggled.
"Hee Haw," he said, realizing his voice had lowered, in pitch almost without thinking about it.
Derrick stood up and looked around. His distantly heard footsteps sounded different, his height was completely different as was standing on his hind legs. Derrick tentatively walked forward, his back hunching and his feet shuffling. He had expected to fall on his face, but instead he was surprised to find that standing on his hind legs wasn't nearly as uncomfortable, or bizarre, as he had expected.
"Hee Haw," he said as he began trotting around his stall.
Derrick could feel his spine start to change, and though it didn't hurt like he would have thought, it was still strangely amazing and a little scary. Derrick took a few more steps, his legs wobbling and his big toes and feet turning white before he planted both hooves and then pushed off with his front feet, painfully landing on his butt on the ground.
"Oooo," he said, biting his lip.
Derrick tentatively sat back upright and tried to stand up on all fours again. He could feel the muscles in his back and shoulders again start to quiver and tingle.
"Look at me now!" cried Derrick.
Derrick took a few more steps, his back and shoulders beginning to hurt but he felt like he was getting the hang of things. With each hop Derrick's feet dug firmly into the ground, each thud on the ground caused a shock through his entire body. Derrick felt so alive and so totally full of energy.
"Hee Haw," he said, all the more amazed with his new body.
Derrick could hear the girl coming up, could hear her talking on her cell phone about how her little experiment had worked. He could tell by the tone of her voice that she was happy with herself. He could also hear her speaking about a trip. Derrick wanted to stop her, to react in a normal way, but he didn't. He wanted to hear what she had to say.
