One upon a time it would have been considered sexist to require people be a certain sex in order to have a certain job. In fact people once marched against it. However, with how easy it was to switch now, it wasn't unusual for it to be requested.
In Eliza's case, she worked for "Field Agents", a company that represented many athletes. Her new client was a basketball star who specifically asked for a male agent. Field Agents instead looked at employees who could take on new clients and had proven they were capable. Eliza found herself at the top of the list and was given two options. She could become a man, or pass on this offer and be first in line for the next position.
While Field Agents was large, and she would likely not wait very long, she decided to take the client. She told her boss she would swing by the clinic and meet the new client first thing in the morning.
The company would cover the procedure of course, but Eliza listened to the deals anyway. Just because she wasn't paying didn't mean she needed to waste money. Hearing the two for one special reminded her that her very straight boyfriend was waiting for her at home and would probably freak out at meeting Eli (she had already decided on her male name).
A quick drive home and a 30 minute conversation later and she had convinced Vincent this needed to be done. Working for Field Agent, she would sometimes have to quickly negotiate with press coach's to convince them to act in the best interest of her client. She hadn't expected using those skills on her fiance but the clinic was closing soon so she had to act fast.
Upon approaching the front desk, Vincent had another doubt she needed to smooth over. "I'm still not attracted to men, so how does this keep us together?"
She sighed as she explained again. "I'm not attracted to women, but the two for one deal will keep both of us straight; so the new male me will be attracted to women, and the new female you will be attracted to men." She placed her hand on his arm. "Trust me babe, you will be attracted to me and if you aren't that just means I get to win you over all over again." She gave Vincent a flirtatious smile. "I actually like the idea of getting woo you this time." She began to count off his other objections with her counter-arguments before he could bring them up again.
"The process is a 100% complete conversion so you won't look like a man in drag. The only people who do choose partial changes because they prefer it. You are a stud as a man, so you are guaranteed to be a little hottie. There are studies to show attractiveness is constant between sexes so you don't have to worry about that. You work as a pastry chief looking to become a Sou Chief. With stereotypes about women being better cooks you may even be able to get your own promotion out of this too. Like you say when you are baking, presentation is everything. "
Eliza wasn't sure if he could get a promotion by being a woman in the kitchen but Vincent had concerns about his work and she had to address them somehow. "Most importantly I have to do this for my job," Eliza may have neglected that she had the option to pass it up, "and we both want to stay together. Right?"
Vincent was still looking hesitant until the last question. "Of course!" Eliza loved him, and she hated manipulating like this, but she had plans to make it up to him.
Eliza turned toward the front desk lady who had been patiently waiting and listening to everything. "Hi again, I'm back for the two for one special."
She smile. "Of course. If you'd like, I could also upgrade it with a frequent flier deal. That allows you to use the two for one special for future visits at a reduced rate." She leaned in closer. "My girlfriend....err boyfriend right now...got it and it pays for itself in time. Though we swap every month."
Eliza smiled. "Really? When was the last time you changed?"
"This morning actually. What do you think? Do you want it?"
