The curse isn't teaching any lessons

added by faykate 9 months ago AR

The nurse who had revealed the beach ball glared down at Pam. "Is this some sort of a joke?" she asked, crossing her arms over her ample, scrub-clad chest.

"Falsifying a medical emergency is a serious offense, ma'am. Not to mention that you were going 30mph over the speed limit when I pulled you over!" The police officer who'd escorted her to the hospital approached, taking out a pair of handcuffs. "I'm going to have to take you down to the station."

Pam was getting mental-whiplash from everything, but at the sight of the cop about to arrest her, her unfortunately ingrained habit took control again and she spouted another lie to try to avoid her fate: "I'm a minor! I'm only 17! Y..you just can't arrest me! Please! I didn't mean for this to go so far!"

"Being underage is no excuse, missy. This is a hospital! We're trying to save lives and don't have the time nor resources to deal with pranks!" the veteran nurse was still glowering, but the police officer had stopped his approach and was putting away his handcuffs.

"PAM! Oh my gosh, Pam! There you are! Are you okay?" a young girl was running up to the group, which had thinned as the other nurses left to attend to actual patients. She looked to be about 16 or 17 and was wearing a short sundress and a worried look on her face. "What happened?"

With new 'memories' filling her head, Pam realized this was Dana, her girlfriend of about two weeks. With so few good friends, Pam was still trying to impress the other woman and didn't want her to know about the speeding or false pregnancy or any of it, and so she once again lied without thinking: "Oh Dana! Thank you so much for coming, it's nothing, really. I lost control of my car and ran into a tree. I bumped my head but feel okay, but they're going to do some tests just to make sure."

Dana gently hugged her, saying "My poor baby! I'm so glad you're alright! Ugh, I bet your insurance is going to go up, though; that sucks!"

"Oh no, it wasn't my fault! Someone sideswiped me! Like a hit-and-run!" Pam improvised. "Good thing I have one of those dash cams so the police can try to identify them!"

The nurse started to push her chair down the hall so they could get her checked in and set up for some scans. "Hopefully your tests all come back normal, but it's kinda too bad you didn't break a little bone somewhere - insurance always pays out more if there's something broken!"

Pam immediately saw dollar signs, her greed completely outweighing any sense she may have ever had. This curse didn't seem to be teaching her any lessons!
