"What the hell's going on?!" Greg slammed his fist down on the table.
Jeff just leaned back, taking another big swig of his beer. Then let out a loud burp. "We're playing DnD," he laughed. His large belly shook with glee. He waved over a barman and a large ox man came over with another round, setting it in front of each of the players. "Just put it on my tab."
Greg didn't feel like he was going to get an answer from Jeff, so he turned back to Charlie. The wolf was looking over his body, studying his paws and fur. Somehow the deep black fur could still contrast with the obsidian black armor. Yet, all of it seemed to blend perfectly making his bright golden eyes the only thing that really stood out. "Are we really playing?" Charlie asked.
"Yep!" Jeff slammed the beer on the table. His large blue wizard robes flowed right along with him as he completed the action. "Finn's the DM so he'll be deciding the whole plot thingy. But I gave him a bit of inspiration," the bear leaned over the table smiling even wider.
"So, then what are we doing?" Greg asked.
"Dunno," Jeff shrugged. "I just came up with my character. And I'm sure Finn knows a bit about yours too."
Greg's brow furrowed. "But what about a session zero. I didn't agree to being a lion." A low rumbling growl grew as he snarled at the happy bear.
"Sure you did. You said, 'Fine. Whatever. Lion,'" Jeff waved to the barman again.
Greg's growl only continued as he watched the smile on the bear's face grow as another beer was placed in front of him. However, he felt two strong hands gently rub at his shoulders. "It's okay. We're just playing a game. Let's figure it out," Charlie said.
"You're okay with this?"
"Uhh... It's not all bad," Charlie said. Though his tail betrayed him as it gently started wagging when Charlie thought about it more.
"But Finn's supposed to give us some kind of idea what the game is," Greg's anger calmed ever so slightly. If Charlie wasn't upset, then he felt as though he shouldn't be either. The calm and cool way he spoke, gave the impression that this was just a game.
"Well..." Charlie said. One of his hands rested on Greg's shoulder as he looked around the room. In the back corner there was a large corkboard with papers nailed into it. "How about a quest? Maybe that'll lead us into a direction."
"OOOO! YEAH! That sounds like fun!" Jeff pressed his hands against the table to help himself up. The large man waddled across the bar to the corkboard.
Charlie tapped Greg on the shoulder, "C'mon. Let's at least see something before we call it quits."
"Right..." Greg muttered as he stood up. A bit of vertigo hit him as he realized just how small everything around him was. He'd always looked up to Charlie, but now he was staring down. There had to be at least 6 inches between them now. But that was with near everyone else in the bar as well. Only a few other creatures even came close to his height or his musculature. He looked down, just now realizing that he was the exact opposite of Charlie. Where Charlie was completely clothed, Greg had nothing but a loin cloth and straps to properly hold his axes to his back. Though with a body like his, he realized just why so many bodybuilders felt so confident and comfortable without anything on. Just watching the glances of envy and lust as he crossed the bar, were enough to make him want to start working out.
"How about this one?" Jeff tore off a piece of paper. "Slimes! They're so much fun!"
"Maybe..." Greg answered. "Looks like there's a few more we can choose from." He looked over the board seeing a few others like goblin slaying or guarding a wagon while it travels to a different town. But then there were far easier quests, like find a missing cat or help a farmer with his cattle. Greg stared at all the options wondering which one to choose.
