Mackenzie felt her knowledge disappear from her brain as she was surrounded by warm fluid and felt the beating heart of a mother. Although she had lost the knowledge of language and even the sense of identity, the first words she would hear in her new life were "it's a boy."

Robbie missed her kids, but had a good time spending the day with Teresa's family. They were welcoming and tried to remember to speak English in front of her, although sometimes they relapsed into Spanish. Robbie had a little Spanish, but got lost when people spoke it quickly.
