Mary decided that she wasn't quite ready for the notion of becoming a full animal, and decided to drink only half of the Horse vial.
She popped the cork off, taking a small sniff of the contents. The scent of grass shot up her nose, and instantly an image of wide open plains appeared unbidden in her mind, the gusts of wind roiling off the tall grasses.
Mary shook her head slightly, clearing the image away even as her nostrils flared, sucking in more of the fresh smell of grass.
"Whoa," She said aloud. "Strong stuff."
Steeling herself, she lifted the vial to her lips, tilting it upward and taking a few good sips.
It had a sharp yet earthy taste, like a mixture of grass, carrots, and apples all at once. She gulped it down with a little difficulty. Taking a few deep breaths as she put the cork back in its place.
Mary stood still for a minute, waiting for something to occur, but nothing seemed to happen. Another minute went by, and then another.
She walked over to the mirror she had hanging in the hall peering closely at her face and body. Nothing, just the same old Mary as always.
She frowned, suddenly realizing how stupid all this really was. Vials that could turn people into animals? Ridiculous, she'd really been had on this one.
Mary felt some heat in her face as she flushed, embarrassed at how quickly she'd drank some random vial of liquid. She couldn't believe she fell for something so stupid. It must be some strange marketing scheme, or a prank by one of her friends.
Angry with herself, Mary walked back to the box of vials and put the Horse vial in its place. She glared at the box for a moment before walking over to the wall and grabbing her keys off the rack.
She had errands to do, and if she stopped living in fantasyland she might actually be able to finish them today.
So Mary went upstairs, throwing on a some black leggings, some white athletic socks, a tank top, and her white Nikes before heading out the door and getting into her car.
The first thing on her list was grocery shopping, so she pulled out of her driveway and started driving toward the store, absentmindedly plucking at her leggings, which felt a little tighter than usual.
