The small bronze ring was the Ring of Blending.
It granted the wearer of the ring a powerful ability; the power to always fit in. Essentially, the ring alters reality itself in order to make the wearer fit the surroundings and people around them, complete with a new personality and appearance.
If a man were to, for example, accidentally walk into the women’s restroom, then reality would change so that the man was now a woman with feminine mannerisms. Or, if a woman were to wear the ring and was nearby a group of frat bros, then the ring will make it so that the woman was instead a man who is also a part of the frat group. The ramifications made to the wearer could be anywhere from practically unnoticeable to life changing.
Determining whether the wearer would blend in with either nearby people or the surrounding environment all depended on what finger the wearer had the ring on. If it was on their index finger, the wearer would blend in with people, such as a group of nerds or some drunk party girls for example. If the ring was on their ring finger, the wearer would blend in with the environment, say a classroom, a sports stadium, an office building, etc.
What's also important is that while the ring alters reality to make the wearer fit in, nobody will notice the changes. To that extent, if someone were to wear the ring on their left hand, then they too would be unaware of the changes like everyone else. If the wearer puts it on their right hand, however, then they will be able to realize that things are changing.
The ring sat there, magically enchanting as per usual. Whenever it was not worn, it constantly created a small spell which made it appealing and made those nearby want to try it on.
