What amazing luck you were having! When your last apartment was condemned because the landlord was doing some shady activities, you had figured that you'd be homeless, but, as if by a miracle, you saw an online ad posting for a place not far from your old place that's in perfect proximity to your job. You immediately answered it and started to correspond with the person who posted an ad, a girl named Paige. You seemed to click and she agreed to a roommate interview.
Fast forward to the day of the interview, where you were impatiently hitting the buzzer in the lobby. You were the only person standing in there, though there was a girl standing inside looking just as impatient as you. She was a redhead, with long hair and freckles. She checked her phone before walking towards the door, opening it, and pushing past you to get outside. After a few seconds she walked back in, looking exasperated.
"Waiting for someone?" you asked.
As she opened the door to the main lobby, she turned around.
"Huh? Oh yeah, I'm supposed to be meeting a girl for a roommate interview but she hasn't shown up yet. I figured I'd meet her in the lobby." she said. "I take it, you have a similar story?"
"Yeah, I'm waiting for a tenant to let me in." you said.
"Usually I wouldn't do this, but I feel nice today." the girl said, holding the door for you.
"Thanks." you said.
You walked into the lobby with her and walked to the elevator. You got in and stood on the opposite side of the car.
"What floor?" she asked.
"Third." you replied.
"All right." she pressed the button and the car sped up to the third floor, where you got out, and so did she. "I really should call this girl."
The girl took out her phone and dialed a number. As she did, your own phone started to ring, you looked at who the caller ID was...
"You have got to be kidding me..." Paige said as you picked up the phone.
"Hey!" you sheepishly smiled as you answered the phone.
A little while later, you were sitting in her apartment at her kitchen table. There was an uncomfortable silence that Paige finally broke.
"So... you're Ashley." she said.
"Ash. You know, like Bruce Campbell?" you replied.
"Didn't you see on the ad that I was only looking for female applicants?" Paige asked. As you made eye contact you realize how striking her face really was.
"Uh, no, actually. Must've been in the fine print." you said. "Is that a problem?"
"I've had bad experiences with male roommates. And I'm not keen to try again." Paige said.
"What if I said I was desperate?" you asked.
"Still no. Sob story or not, you're still a guy." Paige replied. "It's a shame, cause we got on so well... if only..."
"I was a girl, yeah, I get it." you said. "I'll get out of your hair."
You stood up to leave and walked towards the door.
"I hope you find the roommate you're looking for, though." you said.
"Hm..." Paige mused as you opened the door. "Wait!"
"Huh?" you asked.
Paige jumped from her seat and rushed towards the door.
"You're not what I expected... but because we got along so well over email and you don't seem to be threatening at all... I'll give it ago. A 30 day trial period." Paige said.
"Wait, really?" you asked.
"I might regret this... but you might be the perfect roommate yet." Paige said.
