"Chad, you really are the bestest dog," Todd laughed as the mutt licked his face. Todd to his head in his hands, and looking Chad in the eye said, "Now that you are a dog, you need your shots. There are a whole host of diseases that as a human you didn't have to worry about. But dogs have to worry about rabies, distemper, ringworm, fleas, etc. So the vet will make sure you stay healthy, and are healthy, and we'll get you chipped too. Okay, Chad?"
Chad nodded his head. He trusted Master Todd to do what was best for Chad.
"That's the boy."
He led Chad into the vet's office. It looked familiar but different. The words on the signs were just jibberish to Chad now. Dogs can't read. Chad knew he used to be able to read, but maybe dogs used that language part of the brain for smells or something. He was cataloging a huge number of new distinct smells that he hadn't ever imagined before.
Voices all sounded different too.
When Todd got up to the reception window, the small hit him. Lavender Perfume! Only his dad's receptionist wore that stuff all the time. No wonder the place looked familiar. He just hadn't seen it from 2 feet off the floor before.
After checking in, Todd told Chad back to sit down. Valley Veterinarian Service was the name of his dad's clinic, so maybe Todd didn't know that it was Chad's dad's clinic.
"I'm sure the doctor is good. We used to go to Dr. Potts, but he retired just after my last dog died, and he sent out a letter of recommendation for this place."
"Todd and Chad?" called the receptionist.
Todd stood, Chad followed. But he hung his head sheepishly as they passed the receptionist. He felt self conscious being naked in front of a woman.
