Looking around, she noticed the lab had gathered some dust, and the test animals were overly quiet. Also the scents of various beasts was missing from the air. Getting up and checking she saw the cages were not only empty, but gone. She thought about it and opened up the servers dummy terminal and checked the time.
Two hours short of thirty-seven days had passed.
"Holy shit," she muttered. "Even if teleportation still had glitches to work out, this could still be a hell of a way to handle human spaceflight." De-spawn at before launch. Move the files on the ship to wherever you're going, and re-spawn there. "I'm going to be fucking rich." Though I'm going to have to figure out how who's bank accounts to use, she thought. Shelly had the higher salary, but at least Zoey hadn't the vast amount of student loans from graduate school. Her debt was just starting out.
What about our past relationships, she thought to herself. Doc was never close to her family. In fact she found them to be massively unbearable. Zoey was in a similar boat, plus she had recently dumped one jackass after a second date. 7GO4 best friend were whoever gave him food, though he'd like to find a mate soon.
She shook her head, trying to stop any thoughts of rutting a female wolf. She felt warm, hairs on her body starting to stand up and lengthen. "No, stop. Stop." She went to the sink in the animal storage room and splashed some cold water on her face. For the briefest moment, she had felt her body shifting, becoming more animal like. Zoey even had memories of previously turning male before that janitor walked in. He was yummy. "No, don't think of eating people. Just mating. No! Home. I just want to go home." She felt warmer.
*flash*
It took a moment for her eyes to adjust. The room was dark, but in moments she could see she was back home in her apartment. Well, Shelly's apartment.
"How did that happen?" she asked herself. How was she teleporting without the equipment? It made no sense.
Shaking her head, she went to the kitchen to get that coffee. Only then she noticed things looked different. The smaller items, like the toaster and magnets on the fridge were different. "Oh come on. A little over a month, and they already rented my spot out to someone else. I had a lease, dammit." She was going to find that landlord and rip his throat out. As her ears became taller, she felt her teeth extending into points. Then she spotted the coffee packets and a selection of gourmet flavors. Okay, she thought as she grabbed a pack. Whoever moved in had good taste.
It was then she heard movement coming from her bedroom on the other side of the living space.
