Standing before the two rebels was a brown cow. The rebels stared at the cow in silent shock. Seizing the opportunity, Jasper, who was the cow, rushed past them. The rebels quickly moved aside to not be bowled over.
Jasper blindly ran through the palace, then down the streets of the city. In the chaos of the coup, no one seemed perturbed about a cow running around. Finally, Jasper crossed the city gates to freedom.
He continued to run, however, only coming to a stop when he found a lake he could drink from. He slaked his thirst, then took a good look at his reflection in the water. Why had Anya chosen this shape for him? It was humiliating and would make it difficult to find her.
The amulet appeared to have become a golden nose ring, and he had a brand on his side in the shape of Anya's family's crest. But to his horror, he was now a she. Instead of a large bull's shaft, Jasper had an enormous pink udder.
Jasper wandered a bit past the lake. Just as she was getting too tired to walk more, she spotted a dairy farm. The gate to the pasture had been left open, so she ambled in, blending in with the other cows. Reluctantly, she filled her stomach with some grass and hay, then fell asleep.
