You grab the choke collar, looking it over. Other than the gemstone, it appeared to be a thin, simple strip of leather. A small metal latch allowed it to be secured around ones neck and appeared well-crafted. Instinctively, you brought the choker up to your throat, not expecting it to fit before being pleasantly surprised by the small 'click' as your fingers instinctively fastened the latch. The choker felt nice around your neck, the gentle pressure and cool leather feeling oddly sensual.
Chandler looked at the ring, turning it over in his hand once or twice and feeling the weight of it before slipping it onto his right hand. The moment the ring settled below his knuckle, a small tingle emitted from the collar and ran through your body as the sapphire gem on Chandler's ring flashed. "Huh," Chandler said, shaking his hand slightly, "weird tingle. So how do these things work? We just wear 'em?"
You shrugged your shoulders. "I'm not sure."
Chandler looked confused. "What did the guy at the Magic store say?"
"There was no guy." You explained, "I just paid with my phone at the kiosk near the register."
Chandler blinked in confusion. "Well, what about when they were pitching the jewelry? They must have explained what to expect."
You took a deep breath, beginning to realize your mistake. "I mean... they were near the other things marked 'Love Charms'... maybe there's something in the box?" You suggested, trying to sound helpful.
Chandler had an annoyed expression as he took a deep breath and re-opened the jewelry box. He ran his fingers along the edge of the bottom until his fingernail caught the edge of a piece of parchment, folded neatly and snugly secured to the bottom. He lifted it, unfolding it as he went.
"Congratulations on purchasing the Ring and Collar of Control! These items work in tandem, allowing the Ring-Bearer total control over the Collar-Wearer's mind, body, and spirit! While wearing the ring? Simply point, command, and enjoy the results!"
Below the sales pitch, written in different handwriting, was the following:
"PRICE REDUCED DUE TO POOR MANUFACTURING. ITEM SET FUNCTIONS BUT HAS SEVERAL FLAWS:
1) Collar can only be worn once per subject, and can only be removed by the Ring-Bearer. Once removed, subject becomes immune to any further changes, even if Collar is re-worn. Different magic must be applied for further changes or reversal.
2) Poor concentration during item creation led to a Fetish-Infection. When given room to interpret, the item set will find a way to twist commands and transformations towards a 'gothic' motif. This can typically be avoided by providing clear, specific instructions when using the Ring on the Collar-Wearer.
3) Rushed fabrication has created a Feedback Loop. If the Collar-Wearer is subjected to too many changes in too short amount of time, the excess magical energy will begin to subtly affect the Ring-Bearer's mind and body. The extent, severity, and direction of these effects is unknown and varies from subject to subject. Ring-Bearer is advised to proceed cautiously.
4) Collar and Ring should never be worn on the same subject at the same time. Results are unpredictable and potentially catastrophic."
