While thankful to have Lancelots help, a new problem now surfaced for Nat and her friends. Where was the vampiric knight going to stay?
Spark and Connors house was immediately crossed off the list, a vampire staying at a demon hunters house was an obviously bad idea. Rei and the Desotos wss equally bad. Lancelot maybe willing to help but he was still a vampire. Having him stay at the home of humans was like letting a fox stay in a henhouse, you were just asking for problems. This left Nat as the only viable option. "I don't know," Nat said softly. "I mean why can't he stay with Tanya and Sofia? Besides, Amara is already staying there."
"Actually," Amara replied sheepishly. "I was talking with Ms. McKinnon and her fiancé. They actually have a spare bedroom that they'll let me stay in." Nat raised an eyebrow, curiously gazing at the mara. "And it has nothing to do with the fact that their place is alot closer to Miranda's house?" Amara blushed, rubbing the back of her neck before Nat smirked. "I understand Amara and I'm happy for you," she said. "You deserve to have your own room."
"And since me and Tanya are now looking for another safe house we can't take him either," Sylvia added. Nat nodded, sighing in acceptance. Whether she liked it or not her home was the best place for Lancelot. She just wasn't sure how her parents would react.
"Mom I'm home," Nat exclaimed as she opened her front door. After explaining the situation to her parents, Nat was thankful they were willing to take in the vampiric knight on a temporary basis. That being said, Marisa still wanted to talk with Lancelot, if for no other reason than to lay down some ground rules. Nat now saw her parents approach, Marisa taking the lead as she sized up Lancelot.
"Welcome to our home," Marisa stated. "My name is Marisa and this is my husband Liam." Lancelot bowed, studying Nats parents carefully as he entered. "I thank you Marisa," he said. "Hopefully I will not be an inconvenience."
"As long as we have some ground rules," Marisa said. "The only one being that you do not feed on humans in this house." Lancelot nodded, it was a simple enough request. At first puzzled, he looked closer at Liam MacGregor, surprised by what he saw. "He's human."
"Yes my husband is human, which is why we do not feed on humans in this house."
"Why is he still human?"
Marisa paused, her eyebrows arching as she gazed at the vampire. "I beg your pardon?"
"You married a human," he said. "Bore his child yet you did not turn him. I am curious why?"
Marisa's features began to shift, her face becoming more feral as her eyes became blood red. "My reasons are my reasons alone," she replied icely. "Do not question my relationship with my husband again and if you harm him in anyway I will make you suffer." Lancelot was taken aback, the knight looking to argue before Liam stepped between them.
"Honey it's okay," he said, trying to calm his wife. Liam now turned towards Lancelot, a warm smile on his face as he addressed the taller vampire. "Marisa is very protective of her family," he said. "I'm sure you understand. We appreciate your help."
"Of course," Lancelot replied. "Our people have always been quite protective of what we hold dear. As well as having a temper."
"Thats why I don't argue with her," Liam joked. "Happy wife, happy life am I right?" Lancelot chuckled, a small smile cracking on his handsome face. He was already warming to this quirky, unassuming man. "I like you Liam, let us talk."
As Liam now led Lancelot towards the loving room, Nat glanced at her mother noting the sour expression on her face. "Mom?"
"Vampires," she grumbled. "Always thinking themselves above people. Seeing humans as livestock and not thinking, feeling, beings. And they wonder why I left."
"I'm sure everything will be okay mom."
"I hope so," Marisa sighed. "My people have always made me nervous. Lancelot was Miro's loyal bodyguard before falling out of favor and you saw what he tried to do last year. If he harms you or your father I swear...."
"He won't mom," Nat answered. "He's only here to help." As Marisa sighed, Nat looked to where her father and Lancelot sat. Hopefully her dad could help ease the tension in the house.
