Once Rico had calmed Shelly, They proceeded though the meal with almost as if it was their last. Once the final piece of bacon had been consumed, Shelly voiced her concern. “I believe that I truly have discovered something incredible back at the lab. However I do not know how to go about publishing my work. That is without getting too much attention. All That work can’t go to waste.” Rico looked up from the plate that was in front of him to look Shelly in those hazel eyes. “I could do it for you.” He offered. Shelly seemed to take this suggestion and ponder the possibilities. “No, eventually I would need to show my face and then what would happen?’ Rico answered. “Can’t you just publish your work remotely though some scientific journal?” “No, it’s not that easy.” Shelly replied. “Besides I really have not proved anything yet.” Rico paused. “What do you mean?” Shelly answered. “I didn’t really end up unscathed, did I now?” Rico said. “Well you just discovered something that was way more interesting and more complex than just transportation.” Shelly Paused. “What do you mean?” To this Rico replied “You just found a way to alter the human anatomy with no surgery. I mean I’m no scientist, but that sounds like you found out how to alter DNA without harming the host.” Shelly gasped. “Your right!” she exclaimed. “If I can isolate certain parts of the code, the possibilities are endless!” Shelly continued “I could possibly regrow lost limbs, replace damaged organs, and so much more!” Shelly’s excitement faltered. “Still I have only had one partially successful test. I would need to be able to at least duplicate similar results before I came forward with this.” Rico hesitated before stating the obvious with a defeated tone. “You need to do this again to a second test subject.” Tears were starting to form at Shelly’s eyes again and run down her muzzle. “Yes” she whimpered. “But I could not ask for anyone to go through what I’ve been through!” Rico placed his hand on his lover’s furry black and blond shoulder and stated. “And you don’t have to, I will do it if it means peace for both of us.” Shelly looked up at her lover with watering eyes and saw that he had a tiny blue felt covered box. “I, I meant for this to happen a completely different way. But now seems right.” He placed the box on the table and opened the lid. One singular silver ring with a small stone sat affixed to the band. “It’s a star garnet. I know that its not a diamond. But I remembered you say that it was your favorite stone”. Shelly was shocked. She’d never of thought that any of this would have happened a mere 24 hrs ago. Quickly she regained her composure and answered with a. “YES, Yes I love you Rico!” She then hugged Rico and did not let go for several minutes. They just stood there in each other’s arms, with Shelly’s tail wagging. Eventually they broke apart and Rico went to put the ring on her paw like hand. Finding that it did not fit he retrieved a dog tag necklace and threaded the ring through it and placed it over the head of his lover. Shelly was still there beaming wagging her tail in excitement. Rico then asked. “What’s the next step my love?” To which Shelly replied. “We prepare, then its back to the Lab.” Shelly and Rico sat back down planning out there venture. Rico agreed to retrieve a dog of proportionate size to a small human, Preferably a German shepherd. From the adoption facility down the street. They would then contact Rico’s longtime friend that worked for the news station and have him meet him at the lab. They would then have Shelly Disguised as she was when she had first confronted Rico that evening prior. She would operate the machine and Rico would explain what was going to happen and set up the experiments. This way Rico’s friend could record the whole ordeal for proof and publish the findings in the news making them famous. “But how can I do any interviews?” Shelly asked. “They are going to want to see my face.” To this Rico replied. “They are going to see that we are a living example on how this works.” “Okay” Shelly Hesitantly replied. The plans were now set. Rico left Shelly in the house and went to retrieve a test subject. He later returned with a 3 year old female German shepherd. She was a beautiful long haired blond and black animal. She was extremely hesitant entering the house, however immediately scented Shelly. To both of their surprise the dog immediately took a liking to Shelly. And Shelly likewise seemed to grow attached to it. “Does it have a name?” Shelly Asked. Rico replied “Its name is Maggie.” “Aww.” Shelly replied rubbing Maggie’s belly with her paw like hands. Shelly then made a barking/growing sound. To which Maggie replied in with a yip and a whine. “You can understand her? Rico asked. Shelly nodded. Shelly finally replied. “I asked her if she would do what we needed her to do, and she said yes.” Rico said. “okay but that’s going to take some getting used to.” Eventually the evening hour of 8:00 arrived and it was finally time to put their plan in motion.
