"Well, you would become my wife," the genie explains matter-of-factly.
"Really?" exclaims Kate. "How come?"
"Those were the other rules set out by a former master that cursed the next users of the lamp. He added some things for me too."
"What a jerk," grumbled Kate.
"That he was. Then again, he did get screwed by the wish he made so he took it out on me and on all further possessors of the lamp. I thought it was funny at the time but... Well, he was angrier than I thought. But he should have spent more time thinking about his wish! Like I warn all people to do!" he admitted.
"What did that guy wish for?" asked Kate.
"He wanted to be powerful and an eternal king. So I sent him to a dimension and transformed him into a baby giant ape. He was adopted by the mate of the leader of this group of apes and raised as his son. As a baby, he had all the time in the world to learn to become a powerful leader. And he'd get a long life, considering the lifespan of his new species. And later he'd find a source of the fountain of youth to become truly immortal. So I did fulfil his wish. And what did the ingrate do, as the portal to the realm he now inhabited do? Curse me and the lamp with two of his remaining wishes!"
"Yeah, that wasn't very cool. But you did screw him over," mumbled Kate as she did have to concede that the poor guy had reasons to be mad at the genie.
He had to grow up again as a King Kong ape! No wonder he felt cheated! She would too. In fact, she already felt cheated in this new body! Small wonder he'd throw curses at the genie and his lamp. Even ridiculous ones... But then Kate had an idea.
"If, and I say if, I became your wife, would I become a genie?"
"Er... In theory, yes. But it's never been done before, you realize, so I don't know... And..."
"So I'd grant wishes AND change my appearance too, like you?"
"Yes but not your own and yes, again in theory, you'd change your appearance. But... But I'm not ugly or anything but again, I don't know the technicalities of the curse and... And I'm not ready to be married! That's a really bad idea!"
"Then you could grant my wishes and I could change into a guy again!"
"Yes, yes, I see your points but I'm telling you, we'd rather not go down this road, for both our sakes. Wish something that would make your life as a woman pleasant, I insist!
Kate, thought more about her idea and then reached a decision.
