...whiteface clown. What's more, I'm your boss. No matter how foolish or silly my clown persona acts, your three augustes will act like even bigger fools, and I pick whatever routines we perform." The triplets, with the glaze still in their eyes, said nothing but nodded.
Nelly sat down and did her makeup; with practiced ease she covered her face with white greasepaint. Taking a Q-tip, she then twirled it in her mouth, and then wiped away greasepaint with the wet end around her mouth and on her forehead, before covering her face with baby powder and brushing it away.
Next Nell applied red greasepaint around her lip giving her a dainty clown smile. With a black greasepaint pencil, she drew wide black arches for eyebrows on her forehead, then used it to outline her eyes in black. After that, Nelly powdered and brushed her face as before, then shaded her eyelids blue and rouged her cheeks with pinkish red. As a final touch, Nelly gently misted her face with a spray water bottle to give her makeup a porcelain sheen.
That part of her makeup done, Nelly glued on large fake curly black eyelashes, and as a final touch, a shiny red clown nose as big as a golf ball and covered with red glitter that sparkled like a Christmas Tree ornament.
Now that her makeup was finished, Nelly moved on to her hair. Like her sisters she bunched her brown tresses under a wig cap that she fixed in place with hairpins. Nelly next donned her wig, a curly afro style like her sister's but instead of a single color it was a swirled mix of blue, red, and yellow, the colors of each of the triplet's wigs.
For her costume Nelly put on a yellow turtleneck blouse and bloomer hemmed in red and a dark blue apron dress with a red polkadots and a knee length skirt fluffed up by a white petticoat. She then pulled over her legs knee length red, yellow, and blue striped socks, and placed her feet into a pair of pancake-toed blue and yellow clown Mary-Janes. As a final touch she pulled on a pair of elegant white gloves, hiding any trace of her natural skin color.
Grabbing her phone and a selfie stick, Nellie waddled over to her sisters. Holding the stick with the phone out, the four of them all made goofy expressions as the selfie light flashed.
Oliva, Tiffany, and Nicky all laughed at the picture in the phone. "We all look freaking hilarious!" giggled Tiffany.
"We sure do, Tiff," added Olivia.
"All right, sises," Nelly said a she switched to her clown voice, almost an alto version of Minnie Mouse, "when we are dressed like this, you three will BE the clowns you look like. You will only answer to your clown names Twinky" she pointed at Tiffany, "Winky," she then looked at Olivia, then Nicky, "and Blinky. You will speak in silly voices, and finish each others sentences, as if the three of you share the same dimwitted mind. And you will only address by my clown name Nellibelle."
"We understand Nellibelle-," said Tiffany, her voice now with a goofy lilt.
"-we will do-," added Olivia in a Minnie Mouse soprano.
"-whatever you say," finished Nicky, her voice sounding like she was breathing helium.
"Good." Nelly nodded and mime-honked her nose-these weren't the kind of clown noses that could actually honk. She opened the doo and the four clowns waddled down the hallway and down the staircase.
