"You don't have a PlayStation 2?" Emily asked as Jody turned on the PlayStation.
Jody shook her head. "No, my brother stole the big black one when he escaped to college. It's not like I use it. Dad does sometimes."
Jennifer looked to Emily, "You play video games?"
"Not often," Emily replied. "They tend not to be John's favorite, especially if there is shooting. Jody, what game is in there?"
"I don't know. Whatever has been in there since the last time dad played." Emily winced as Jody picked up the controller. "Uh, there's an existing saved game. Fuck it." She started up the saved game. They wanted the screen as some character was standing in the middle of a field with a house and barn nearby. Music was playing, dark and ominous, but nothing else seemed odd. Jennifer tapped Jody's shoulder and pointed at the controller in her hand and nodded to Emily. "Oh right." She handed it to her.
Emily frowned and started using the controller. The blond character started running around. "Are those chicken footprints in the grass?"
"Beat the hell out of me," said Jody. "How long before he shows up? And why are we dealing with another farm!?"
Jennifer looked to her. "What game is this?"
Jody looked at the plastic flip-case. "Final Fantasy Veeeee. What does Veeeee mean? Weird Japanese."
"I don't that's-." At that moment Emily walked into the building on the field, and the screen and music changed. Suddenly a large pen appeared in the with a house and barn in the back. The blond character now appeared in the foreground with the pen holding a couple of large... chicken-ostriches? The animals were moving around a few steps before stopping and then moving again.
One of the creatures however turned to look at itself before saying, "What the fuck?"
"John!?!" Emily blurted out.
The bird looked at the screen. "Why am I a chicken? Is this Joust?"
"I don't know! I just wanted to see you."
"Ho.... ly..... shit," Jody said in shock.
Jennifer walked up to the screen. "You can hear us in there?"
"Wark!" he said with an electronic sound. He looked at the neighboring character Emily was controlling before looking back at the screen. "Hey! Emily, be careful what button you press!" Chicken-John replied back.
"Sorry," she said adjusting her fingering. "John, I have a friend who has control of the T-or-D curse. We're going to see if we can get you out of there. It might not work, but we want to give it a try."
"Really?" he said suddenly, his mood changing drastically. "Okay, uh. Thank you. I mean it. Thank you. Which do you want me to pick? I'm in your hands."
