After almost an hour's drive, the Van finally reaches it's destination, the driver drives up the dirt road towards the main house. “Please drive to the stables, sir,” Ken says, the driver nods and continues on driving. As they pass the main house, Ken spots his dad walking out and following them, 'hm... I wonder what he wants,' he thinks to himself.
The Van stops in front of the stables and the driver and Ken exit the vehicle, “Ken,” the teenager hears his dad call and turns around, “what is this all about?”
“Oh, nothing dad,” Ken says, “I... I um... It is just a Horse I rented to participate in the upcoming Horse Race.”
“Oh,” Ken's dad says, “I was hoping it would be the Mare I asked for a week ago.”
“You mean, the Mare you want to breed Lightning with,” Ken asks.
Ken's dad nods, he then scowls, “the people said, she'd arrive today,” he says, “I already paid a ton of money. I sware... if I got scammed... then I'll... .”
“Woah, dad,” Ken says, noticing his dad starting one of his rants, “chill, it is still early in the day. If they don't arrive by the evening, I'd try to call them.”
Ken's dad growls, “I have waited long enough,” he says, his arms crossed.
“I know, dad,” Ken says, “just, try and be patient a little longer. I got to get the Horse into a free box.”
Ken's dad follows his son to the back of the Van, the driver has already opened the back doors, “is it a female or male, and what's it's name,” Ken's dad asks.
“It's a male,” Ken says, “he has not been given a name, I am a little concerned if he'll listen to me, but I love a good challenge. Okay, boy, come on out!”
Jeff cautiously slowly climbs out the trailer, his face red like a tomato, feeling humiliated and embarrassed to be standing naked in front of three males.
Once Jeff steps into the light of the midday sun, Ken's dad's eyes widen, 'didn't Ken say that the horse is a male,' he asks himself, 'the horse is defiantly female and... stunning... one perfect American Quarter Horse mare! She'd be the perfect match for lightning!' The man looks at his son, an idea forming in his head, 'I might be able to breed her without Ken noticing,' the man thinks to himself, 'I got to have the vet check her out first, to see if she is ready for breeding.'
Ken and Jeff are unaware of what Ken's dad is thinking, Ken signs the papers from the driver, he then looks over at his dad, “I'll take him to the free box in the back, the one which belonged to “April”.”
Ken's dad nods, “sure, when will you start training he... him,” just catching himself before he could say “her”, Ken does not notice the slip.
“Right after lunch,” Ken says, “I'll start with a him running a few laps around the pasture.”
Ken's dad nods, “sh... he does look strong and fast,” he says, “I have no doubt that you'll win the race, once he is trained. You sure it is not a little to late? I mean... you only have a maximum of 5 to 6 days.”
Ken smiles, “I'll make it work,” he says, then he grins at Jeff, “what do you think, boy,” he then asks. Jeff just nods his head, Ken smiles up at his dad, “see, even he thinks it'll work.”
Dan, Ken's dad, sighs, “if you say so,” he says, 'weird... why does Ken believe the Mare is a male? I hope he is not sick and not losing his mind,' he thinks to himself. He then looks at Ken, “I'll have to head back to the house,” he says, “I need to do a few phone calls. Meet me there once you put the horse in April's box.”
Ken nods, “will do, dad,” he says, he then grabs Jeff by the shoulder and starts to lead him into the barn, while Dan heads back into the house.
