'I'm sorry Miss the store is closing. I can't let you go back inside'
Lacey looked up at the tall security guard barring her way back into the store 'No! I have to. I left Dani's clothes in there'
'And who is Dani?'
'This is Dani' the young girl indicated the baby in her stroller. 'I changed her and left her clothes in the store. I know where they are. I won't take long to fetch them'
'I sorry Miss I can't let you back in. But describe the clothes and where you think you left them and I will summon a staff member to fetch them'
'Um, A suit. Like your staff uniform. You know, white and blue ..... In the baby department, on the floor'
'Okay wait here' The guard spoke on her walkie talkie 'Can someone retrieve a blue and white jumpsuit from the baby department. The baby looks to be about a year old. I'd guess a size 1. Evidently dropped on the floor'
Dan heard this but when she tried to correct the guards mistakes all that came out of her mouth was 'Brragh Brah Ga Ga!'
In panic she turned to Lacey to get her attention. But the girl was talking on the phone. Dan realised to her horror that the girl was ringing her mother. She had not heard what the guard had said. Instead she was saying 'I'm outside the door nearest the supermarket. The guard won't let me back in. Where are you?'
5 minutes later. One of Dan's colleagues, a demonstrator whose name badge read as "Mary" turned up at the door. She was carrying clothing but not the clothing Dan was hoping to see. Dan heard her tell the guard 'This is all I could find on the floor. A white jumpsuit, size 1 or this blue dress also size one. However they have the store tags still attached. I don't think it is what you were looking for'
'They will do. It's past knock off time and I have to bolt the doors. All the customers are out. I'll take them anyhow. We can put the expense down to shop soil'
Mary left and the guard turned to Lacey. 'Hey girl! Was this what you meant?' she showed the jumpsuit and dress.
'No. It was a white shirt and blue pants'
'Take them anyhow. Compliments of the store. I have to lock up. If you need your other clothes they should be in lost property on Monday' The guard thrust the clothes into Lacey's hands then began to shut the door.
Dan thought it was pretty irresponsible for the guard to leave Lacey and a baby alone outside the locked door, but she had no means of communicating this. She watched the guard walk away.
Then a woman approached.
