Charlene took a deep breath as she started to put together some lunch for herself. It was weird having the place all to herself, but she needed to finish unpacking and she still needed to find a job. Having to move suddenly had put her in a bit of a tough position, but she was still doing the best she could. Her daughters were all at school and the house was quiet, maybe she should go out and get something to eat instead of...
DING-DONG!
The sound of the doorbell nearly made Charlene jump. They had lived in Moon Lake for a few days so far and the only real visitor they had gotten was Samantha Twist. She went to the door and looked through the window to see a woman a few years younger than her with long blonde hair holding the hand of a little girl and holding some sort of food dish. Curious, Charlene opened the door a bit and looked at her.
"Uh, can I help you?" She asked.
"Hi, I'm Alice Hayes, I live across the road there," she said with a smile as she nodded to the house across the street. "I just wanted to come and welcome you to the neighborhood. I brought you and your family a pie."
"Uh, thanks," Charlene said, a bit surprised at the woman's arrival. "I'm sorry, I wasn't really expecting anyone to come by today. I'm Charlene Covaks."
She looked down at the little girl who was looking at her curiously from behind her mother's leg. Charlene smiled a bit, she reminded her of her own daughters at that age, it really brought her back. "And what's your name?"
"Megan," the girl answered quietly.
"Nice to meet you Megan," Charlene said with a smile. "Do you two want to come in? You can put the pie on the counter in the kitchen."
"Of course, thank you," Alice said as she and Megan went inside. She set the pie down on the kitchen counter, looking around at the boxes. "Do you need some extra help unpacking? I'm sure I can arrange something."
"Uh, maybe, are you this helpful to everyone who moves in?" Charlene asked.
Alice's smile turned into a frown and she sighed a bit. "Not normally, but..." she said, looking down at her daughter. "We heard about what happened to your family. I just wanted to offer what help I could, I'm sorry if it's a bit much, but if something like that happened to one of my girls..."
"Oh, uh... thanks," Charlene said with a smile as she gave Alice a nod. She felt a bit more confident than she had felt before and smiled. "That really means a lot, I hadn't expected everyone to be so nice."
"Welcome to Moon Lake," Alice said with a smile. "Even if you're not part of a pride or a pack, if someone goes through something like that, we will do what we can if a family has gone through something like that. And, well... my wife wouldn't have forgiven me if I didn't show some kindness..."
"Oh... I'm sorry..." Charlene said.
"It's okay, its been awhile," Alice said sadly. "She was a lovely woman, and I miss her, I'm just trying to do what I can to get through day by day with our kids."
