David continued to lose his memory every few weeks, sometimes even more frequently than that. Each time would be the same horror, the same yelling and crying, the same explanation, the same dawning realization that there was nothing to be done. The scientists had no clue how to fix the problem. As far as they could tell, this was just one of many possible things that could go wrong with such a dramatic and untested procedure.
David's family quickly grew sick of David's condition. He would seem to settle in and accept his fate after a few weeks, only to randomly have another "blank" and wake up yelling and storming around the house with his tits out or worse. Every time, he would forget the procedure and everything since.
They pulled him out of school after a couple of these episodes, and it soon became clear he would never be able to live a normal life. They transferred him to a mental facility.
This made things easier on his family, but for David it was even more stressful and terrifying. From his perspective, he went to bed as David one normal night and then woke up in a horrible psych ward in an obese woman's body surrounded by strangers. He'd spend the next few days having everything re-explained to him, learning that his family may or may not come visit him, and that he was forbidden to leave or contact anyone. He'd try to grow accustomed to his disgusting new body and his unbearable new life as a prisoner, knowing that any day he could suddenly have another amnesia attack and have to start all over again.
