Getting pregnant as a freshman in college is no picnic, but Stevie had always wanted to be a mother. She managed to find a nice boy to start dating, and a few weeks later, revealed to him she was pregnant, and wanted to keep the baby. The boy, Alex, was a bit freaked out, not wanting to be a Dad so soon, but she'd picked him out well, and he decided to do the right thing.
Of course, this meant giving up on her college dreams (you can't be a cheerleader while pregnant), but Stevie had an ace in the hole. The strange device Amber had brought to her! With some experimentation, she'd figured out how to make people younger easily enough; at some point, she could just turn herself back into a teenager, and get back what she was giving up!
At the wedding, everyone agreed Stevie looked radiant, and if her baby bump was a bit obvious, no one commented. Alex came from a good family, and soon she was living with his parents. It was decided he would continue his education, as he was supposed to take over the family business one day.
Stevie didn't mind. She was treated like a queen, and got along well with Alex's folks. Though her doctor had concerns, given her small frame, her pregnancy went off without a hitch, as Amber had turned her into a perfect little baby making machine!
She named the girl Amber, of course, and she could have sworn she saw a spark of recognition in the infant's eyes when the nurse put her in Stevie's arms. Only when she was alone would she talk to Amber, wondering if anything was left of her former roommate.
Months passed, and Amber quickly learned how to crawl, then walk. She was a quiet baby, rarely crying, and very serious looking. But she didn't talk, and everyone was starting to wonder if there was something wrong.
One morning, Stevie heard a tiny voice calling her name. She woke, and turned to her side, seeing her 18 month old daughter staring at her intently.
"Stevie." She said, in her adorable little voice.
"Amber! Is it really you?"
The tot nodded. "I...I remember most of it. Some things are fuzzy. I...I still want to call you Mom, even though I know your name."
Stevie sat up and picked up her little angel, holding her in her lap. "I hope you will still call me Mommy."
"I...this is so strange. Ste...Mommy...why didn't you make me bigger?"
"Well sweetie, the truth is, I've always wanted to have a child. And I didn't know if you were still in there. Or if maybe you were Todd's baby. I still have the machine though."
Amber thought about this. "I guess making me grow up now would raise a lot of questions."
"Yes, especially since Alan thinks he's your Daddy. Are you ok with being my little girl for now?"
Amber nodded. "Ok, Mommy. But get me the device. There's something I need to change. I'm tired of wearing diapers!"
Slowly, over the next few weeks, Amber seemed to grow a little quicker than normal, but no one seemed to notice. Nor did anyone really think it was strange that the tiny girl was already potty trained, and soon proved to have a large vocabulary. Of course she could read too, but they had to keep that a secret....for now.
