The Ointment Store

She-Dragon Dawn

"Well..." said Dawn. "I would like something unusual. One that is sort of a one-of-a-kind experience."
The shop owner seemed to ponder deeply for a while but then he stopped frowning and his face lit up.
"I know! This one is a bit pricey but believe me, you won't regret it at all!"
He rummaged through the vials and bottles of the section called "Fantasy & Mythology" and handed her a vial containing a soft pastel; pink ointment which also seemed to glitter with golden sparkles. The picture on the bottle depicted a dragon, obviously female with its long lashes and soft blue and pink scales. It looked babyish because of its cartoonish style but it was really cute. It was funny too so she bought it. A bit too expensive for what it was, at first glance, sure, but Dawn had heard that whatever you bought in that seemingly innocent store brought wonders in spite of its banal allure. So she give the few bills, reassured by the smiling old man's words that if she was unhappy or disappointed by it, she could get her money back, as long as she kept the receipt. Dawn slipped said receipt in her bag and left, impatient to try out this ointment at home. Nobody was there and she just couldn’t wait!

Alone in the family bathroom, door safely locked, Dawn popped the cork of the bottle and let the oil drip onto her palm. Its color was very nice indeed, the pink shimmering with gold and smelling divine. Very flowery and fruity simultaneously. As she had undressed, she applied the ointment upon her smooth and beautiful body, waiting to sense the promised unusual effects. And indeed they arrived in a rush. It felt warm upon Dawn's skin and she felt engulfed in new scents. The smell of salt and the ocean. Of warm sand. Of warm sand she could feel under her feet. Feet that were now paws, just like her hands. Divine scents of orchids and other flowers filled her sensitive nostrils as well as that of a fertile jungle. To add to it all, the discreet scent of fire, lava and ashes, yet pungent and forceful, could be detected too, far away and carried by the winds from another island, far away. It was a dangerous paradise, but a paradise nevertheless. She saw that she had now soft rosy and turquoise scales, the same as that of the blue of the ocean whose waves crashed near her. The sand was white and her tail looked like a dolphin's. Dawn looked lithe and slim in spite of her somewhat clumsy movements. Dawn quickly started to search curiously across the beach, delighting in the wonderful rays of the sun, the seashells and coral bones, chasing after butterflies and dragonflies in play. Dawn was so lost in her new appearance and environment that she was utterly unconscious of the new thoughts that wormed through her mind, erasing her previous human identity. The hours passed, leaving Dawn just her name and a regression of the mind, to be filled with each passing minute with new memories, granting her a new life. Not a new personality, merely new experiences as a baby female dragon, flapping her wings like a grown-up and exclaiming at each little thing enthusiastically. Time did not exist anymore, just a perpetual time of bliss, like an eternal summer vacation.

In the shop, the elderly man smiled to himself. This young lady must be enjoying her new life by now. She'd be much happier as a juvenile dragon than as a human, doubtless. She'd live in a tropical paradise as well, which would ease her transformation and adaptation. With any luck, she would be so mesmerized by her new experiences that she would not even be aware of new memories submerging her brain. She would probably not care either way. And even if she did, well, it would be scary and stressful but after a few minutes curled up in fright, all her human memories would be erased and she'd wonder why she was scared at all. And by now, or soon enough, her parents would come to pick her up and get together for a peaceful evening and night, all cuddles and nuzzling. These adult dragons had demanded a few new dragonlings and this wizard was happy to provide. And dragons paid well and liked babies. Everyone was a winner.
