Amelia, Kyle and Ally's single mother, immediately noticed the pair as they entered the house.
"I was wondering where you two were." She seemed unconcerned about the dog. "I should have known you were taking Sadie for a walk."
The two siblings had two very different reactions to this statement. Kyle started to panic. Why was his mom so calm about him bringing a strange dog to the house? Why did she know Sadie's name? Why hadn't his mom asked where Ally was?
The dog named Sadie, formerly known as the human named Ally, caught almost none of her mom's words. Instead, she was excited to hear her name, and to recognize a familiar scent. She happily raced up to her owner, and gave her several doggy kisses. With a practiced motion, Amelia pushed the dog off of her, and gave her several scratches behind the ear.
"Who's a Good Girl? Who is? You are. Yes you are."
Amidst that barrage of baby talk and one of her trigger words, Ally was powerless to resist her doggy impulses. She obligingly rolled over, and received a belly rub for her troubles. This was the life.
Kyle was growing paler by the second. His mother turned her attention away from the dog, and noticed his discomfort.
"Is everything okay?" she asked, oblivious to the reason for his nervousness.
"Yeah, just need to use the restroom." he muttered.
He left his mom and his canine sister, and raced from the kitchen to the hallway. He tried to look for Ally's room, only to discover that it no longer existed. Instead, a home office stood where she used to sleep. Dimly noticing a place to hang Sadie's leash, he went to the bathroom to splash water on his face.
Kyle had come to one conclusion. He had erased his sister from reality, and replaced her with a dog. Kyle wasn't one hundred percent sure how this had happened, but obviously the hypnosis had something to do with it. He guessed that the only ones who remembered Ally were himself, Ally, and Mr. Dormitabis, since they had been in a magic bubble.
He took a deep breath, and considered his options. Glancing back at the kitchen, he could see Amelia feeding his sister some dog food, because to her, that was perfectly normal. Even if he tried to tell his mom about the magic, she wouldn't believe him. Hell, he wouldn't believe it if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes. It was tempting to just let this play out, pretend that nothing was wrong, and go back to the wizard in a week or so.
There was a major problem though. His sister, if she was in her right mind, would want none of that. She was clearly acting like a dog right now, but if her human brain kicked back in, she would be pissed at him. Plus, there was a chance she could turn back into a human at any minute. Who knew how his mom would react to that? Also, if she were stuck as a dog for a week, what damage could that do to her psyche? If her dog side became dominant, there might not be any part of Ally's mind left to save. Not coming to any firm conclusions, he resolved to monitor his dog sister, in case anything else happened.
Meanwhile, Sadie was trying to remember something important. Her owner had just fed her some kibble, and though a small part of her screamed that she wasn't going to eat that, the smell, taste, and satisfying crunch of her meal overruled it. She was content for the time being, but something was still bothering her.
The dog dimly recalled something being wrong with her body. She tried examining herself, and noticed something fuzzy behind her. She growled at it, and tried pouncing on it, but it managed to turn out of her reach. The hunt was on though, and Sadie would not be overcome. She desperately ran around in circles, trying to catch the furry thing wagging behind her, but it eluded her at every turn.
After several minutes of this fruitless pursuit, Sadie was dog-tired. Panting heavily, she walked into her room, finding a much-loved rawhide bone, and her doggy bed. After curling up into a ball, and noticing that the objective of her hunt was her own tail, she started drifting off to sleep. The human part of her, frustrated with all of her dumb behavior, hoped that tomorrow would bring some relief.
