It only took one more blowout accident, courtesy of some laxative snuck into Dan’s coffee, for Dan to agree to using a toddler training potty. Greg had carefully timed it so that Dan would be unable to use the adult toilet before messing himself. Now, a toddler training potty sat next to the adult toilet in the bathroom, not just in their apartment, but also at Dan’s work.
Greg also insisted upon supervising when Dan used the potty. This was one thing he hadn’t schemed to get in place. It happened naturally, after Dan tried to use the potty standing up and made a mess everywhere. Dan was actually the one who suggested Greg supervise him, something that made Greg happy. He was finally making some progress.
Despite now having a potty that was easily accessible to him, Dan was still having regular accidents. Dan blamed it on needing to remove a diaper cover and diaper to use the potty at work. Greg was hopeful that Dan would soon progress to diapers even at home, but he decided not to push it.
One night, Greg was brushing his teeth while Dan used the training potty. Judging by the grunting, Dan was going number two and would need Greg’s help wiping after. Greg wasn’t sure if Dan had always been bad at wiping, but he didn’t notice because he didn’t do Dan’s laundry, but he knew now for sure that Dan left streak marks constantly.
The grunting finished with a loud plop in the training potty, soon followed by liquid hitting the bowl. Greg finished brushing his teeth and went over to Dan, toilet paper in hand. As he carefully wiped Dan, Dan suddenly spoke.
“I’ve been thinking, Greg.”
“About what?” Greg asked.
“Well, this toddler potty has been really helpful for me, so I’m wondering if I should try some other toddler furniture items,” Dan said. Greg tried to keep his excitement hidden.
“Like what?” he asked casually.
