I slowly walked into the room, glancing around nervously. I definitely didn’t like the gleam in Amanda’s eyes, or the way she was looking me over. “What’s going on?” I asked cautiously, fidgeting a bit as I sat down on the couch. “Do you remember Jacob?” My sister asked, reaching into bed pocket and pulling out a flyer, which she handed to me. “Vaguely….he’s the guy you went on a date with a week or two ago, right?” I responded, skimming the flyer. It was an advertisement for a month long vacation trip in the Caribbean. Lots of sun, sand and warm weather. It sounded like a great time, but there’s no way we could afford it.
“Well, turns out Jacob’s family is super rich. Like, four different cars, multiple houses rich. And he invited me and my younger sister to go on this trip with him. It’ll be great! Lots of—-“
“Wait, SISTER?” I demanded. Amanda shrugged. “Jacob saw a picture of us at the Halloween party. He assumed, and once he gets started it’s hard to slow him down.” “Why didn’t you just tell him the truth?” I asked. Amanda rolled her eyes. “I thought you didn’t want anyone knowing the truth, Nick. I still haven’t even told the people at work. It’s not like I’m super close to anyone there who’d know otherwise.” She said.
I grumbled. I could just imagine the kind of teasing I’d get if anyone else found out about what had happened at the Halloween party, but I was still none too happy about the idea of having to dress up as a girl again. “Please?” Amanda pleaded. “I really want to go on this trip. Jacob seems really great, and this will be a great chance to get to know him better. We’ll be doing couple stuff for a lot of the trip, so you won’t even have to talk to him all that much. We might not ever get a chance to go on a trip like this again.” She said.
I had to admit, she had a point. Her job paid pretty well, but the bills piled up fast, and it had been a while since we’d had a family vacation. Sensing my weakening resolve, Amanda added “I’ll buy you the new gaming system when we get back.”
I broke. That gaming system was something I’d desperately wanted for months ever since it came out. “Okay.” I said slowly, causing Amanda to let out a cheer. “I’ll do it.”
