Twinkle wasn't a bad fairy. Not at all in fact. But like all good fairies of her kind, she sought to do good even if others didn't want to or if it really wasn't in their best interests. She had agreed to take Kate to her sister's but it was Kate's last sentence that really got her excited. The unicorn had said no to further pampering yet had said clearly that she might say yes if Twinkle insisted. So the unicorn must want to be made pretty! Of course! It was the natural way of things! Regardless of what might have happened to that equine symbol of purity before, that was who she was now and she WANTED to be beautiful. What was the harm in that? Why resist such a pleasant urge that would absolutely delight fairies and other creatures as well? Why go back to being something else? A unicorn male, maybe, or a fairy, yes, for sure, but a human male? Who would want to be THAT of all creatures? Preposterous! And nature was wiser because Twinkle had seen with her own two eyes Kate starting to surrender to her new tastes. Which was normal too. The world would not make sense otherwise. The world needed a unicorn much more than a stupid human male. It would be wrong on so many levels to allow a unicorn to become a human male. An insult towards nature itself! The few human males that had crossed the path of fairies had met fates which had enchanted the fairies themselves, even if the concerned would disagree. Not that they were in any position now to do anything about it. One had become the princess of a dragon. Another had been dressed as a pretty fairy princess and become the mate of a satyr. One had become the baby of a giant ape. A few the toys or babes of loving monsters. So Twinkle went about to work discreetly so that Kate would become her real self and a delight to all.
So Kate was a bit surprised when Twinkle brought her flowers to eat. Their scent was utterly enchanting and before she knew what she was doing, she had bitten into the crunchy and delicious bouquet. How could nasturtium, poppies and dandelions be so, so deliciously delightful? Kate thanked the fairy. It was so scrumptious! And the fairy was right, not only it was a delight but it would make her mane and coat all glossy and beautiful to behold. And oh, what a delicate intent! While she was busy enjoying a tasty meal, the fairy had put some of the flowers of the bouquet in her mane and tail. And the result was just gorgeous! Twinkle had even braided her mane and tail too! What an artist! Kate thanked Twinkle profusely and the fairy asked if she could brush her coat. She had been so nice, Kate thought kit would be a decent way to thank her and agreed. And Kate had not only brushed her, but her tiny hands had been like massages. An enchantment! A real enchantment. Twinkle then said that when they arrived in her domain and that of other fairies, they could bathe her tenderly. Kate approved and thanked her again. When they set off again, Kate couldn't wait to get there to be pampered some more. Yes. What else was there to life?
"You are so, so pretty, Silver Moonbeam," said Twinkle with a hug to her new friend.
"That is such a pretty name! But... It's... Is it mine?" Kate said, confused.
"Of course, silly!" chided lovingly Twinkle. "Who else's? And it fits you so, so well. Your mother was so inspired when she named you."
"Yes... That makes sense... I guess..." Silver Moonbeam said.
Yes, it did make sense. Her memories were a bit fuzzy for now but they would come back clearly to her. Certainly.
So when the two companions arrived at the fairy village, Kate was gone. She had relinquished her human persona for that of Silver Moonbeam. She had lost her memories to be replaced by new ones, false but looking so vivid and real. Moreover, they had been influenced by Twinkle as well. So that all thought of magical help to return home was forgotten, replaced by the prospect of a delicious bath.
