As the concert went on and and the music washed over her, Rachel jumped up and down in excitement. She just loved this band so much! And being surrounded by all these other people who were also having a great time just made things even better. Losing herself in the excitement, Rachel forgot for a moment she was still holding the camera. She let go and it sailed through the air. “Oh—-“ Rachel started to say, watching the camera fall towards the ground. She had a bad feeling about this
FLASH
The entire building seemed to shake for a second as the magic activated, changes washing over it. One of the walls retracted as the roof and the other walls rapidly moved outwards, exposing the concert goers to the outdoors. Most of the attendees vanished into thin air—back to wherever they had come from. A large, wide field materialized, encompassing much of the former yards of several neighboring houses. The houses themselves vanished as the changes continued, new fences springing up and soon the entire block Rachel and Cecelia’s house had been on was effectively now part of the park.
A number of new trees sprang up; there already had been some lining the streets in front of the houses of their block, but the new park had its own little forest. An elaborate set of playground equipment sprang up from the ground, a series of park benches and picnic tables forming around the perimeter. The former house turned concert venue finished retracting, morphing into a field house in the corner of the park.
The band and remaining concert goers began to change as well. Some of them became older while others started to become younger. The air felt alive with the crackle of static electricity as the camera’s power washed over them.
“Go long!”
Brian sprinted down the field, carefully tracking the football his friend Greg had thrown. Almost got it……there! The twelve year old boy hauled in the pass and celebrated, spiking the ball as he yelled “touchdown!”
Eight year old Connor ran around towards the the bottom of the playground’s tower. This place was so cool! The tower connected to the ground via a bunch of slides, and there was even this room underneath it where you couldn’t see in unless you were standing right in the opening. As he looked into the room, he was surprised to see a dark haired girl wearing a purple dress with flowers on it. She looked like she was about his age, but she didn’t look quite like him. She was…err…Latina, that was the word Mommy had told him! Connor wasn’t so sure about sharing the secret room with a girl, but maybe she was nice? “Hi, I’m Connor!” He said.
The girl looked up at him and smiled shyly. “I’m Raquel. Did you want to play?” Connor nodded, and she smiled again. “Cool! I just found this camera lying underneath here. I think it’s super old or something.” She said, showing him the item she’d found. Connor stared. It looked like some of the cameras his parents had, the ones they would let him use for fear he’d break them. “Do you know how it works?” He asked. Raquel shook her head. “I tried to ask Nikki, my sister, but she just told me to go play.” She said with a frustrated look on her face. She pointed to one of the benches, and Connor saw a bored looking teenage girl texting away on on her phone. She had long dark hair, but with golden stripes—what mommy had told him were called “hi-lights”.
Connor nodded. “I guess we’ll just have to test it ourselves!” He said. Raquel looked curious. “Where do you want to start?” She asked. Connie thought…..
