Officer Jack Taylor had joined the police force due to Romantic ideas of fun and excitement. He expected to be charging bad guys and killing terrorists and all the other stuff you saw them do in 80s action movies. And that had been five years ago. In that time, Jack had worked in traffic, school resources, traffic again, crossing guard and now K-9 unit.
In that time, Jack had remained muscular, with buzzed brown hair and piercing blue eyes. He always dressed in a pristine uniform, kept his car spotless and could quick cuff a perp in less than a second. And none of it mattered, because while Jack considered himself to be the perfect specimen, his superiors didn't. They thought he was an asshole and shouldn't be trusted with anything more complex than a dog and a hand-held stop sign.
Now some people enjoyed the K-9 unit, but Jack was not one of them. Jack hated it in fact for two reasons. One, he didn't like dogs, especially the stupid German Shepherd he was stuck with right. Her name was Annie (who gives a dog a human name?) and she smelled like shit. She drooled, she barked and she constantly tried to get Jack's attention. Jack wanted to smack her and sometimes did just that.
The other reason he loathed this job was that Jack never got to do anything...fun anymore. What he got to do was go out to the airport, or one of the schools, and have Annie sniff things. She sniffed a lot of luggage, all to find a bag of weed of a few grams of coke in a suitcase. The worst part was Jack had to bring all the drugs back as evidence. What's the point of finding a bag of weed if no one got to smoke it!?
Today Jack had been called to Benjamin Harrison High School, apparently because some of the kids had been (gasp) vaping! And the principal had wanted to make a big show of them not tolerating vaping.
"That's why I called you out here Officer Taylor, we're going to search every locker until we find what we're looking for." The principal was a tall black guy who seemed to be doing an impression of Morgan Freeman in 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘺 𝘔𝘦. He didn't have a hair on his head and had little eyes buried in his fat head.
"Yeah, nothing I'd like to do more than find it." Jack mumbled, walking with Annie right beside him. Annie panted, walking with the excitement that came from getting to work. Annie was a two year old German Shepherd, tan and black fur, wearing a collar and a black vest with a white K-9 on it. Jack had to walk faster than he wanted to make sure she didn't run away. It made speaking to the principal difficult. "I'm so glad I can help Mister...." 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦? 𝘙𝘰𝘤𝘬? 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦? 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘪𝘯? 𝘋𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘨𝘶𝘺𝘴 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘪𝘯?
Annie's constant panting made Jack's skin crawl. He could almost smell her horrible breath and he had to stop himself from kicking her. At least until the principal wasn't looking. Jack and Annie made it to a long row of lockers, right as the Chronivac Wave hit the school. Jack was frozen in place, feeling the wave rolling over him and Annie.
"What the hell warrrrs thrrrrrat?" Jack asked, looking over at the principal. The principal who was no longer standing there. Instead, a black lab was standing there. A black lab on two legs? Yes, wearing clothes. Jack looked down at himself. Aside from a black vest, with a large white H-M on it, Jack was nude.
𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯? 𝘈𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘦? Jack looked behind him, to find Annie there. Except not Annie. A German Shepherd, the size of a human, standing on two legs, with her tail stiff behind her. She was wearing a police uniform like...the one Jack had been wearing? "Rrrrrruff!" Jack barked, trying to protest what was happening. 𝘞𝘢𝘪𝘵, 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘐 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘢𝘳𝘬!?
"So is this normal?" The black lab asked. Annie smiled, as only a German Shephard could. Meanwhile, Jack noticed his hands were now touching the ground. His butt was wagging back and forth.
"Jackie is just excited, aren't you boy?" Annie asked. "Let's go get it!" Jack's mind tried to protest. His body though wasn't listening. He pressed his nose to the ground and began to sniff.
