Ezekiel now lit his cigar, blowing out a cloud of smoke as he gazed at the corpse of the Deer Woman.
After confronting the Moreland boys, Kane realized he needed to take a step back. Ghosts, dhamphirs, wizards, and whatever the hell that fox was made him realize he needed a plan. He wasn't being paid enough for this job.
This was how he now found himself on the New York border. Kane needed a breather, a chance to clear his thoughts and plan out his next move. Making his way towards a Native American casino, Kane decided to spend a little money. Spotting the Deer Woman was just a bonus.
Deer Women were legendary in Native American mythos. Like many cryptids and other creatures of legend they appeared to have settled in New England after what had transpired two years ago. Kane though was careful on how he approached his quarry. Deer Women were beautiful in appearance, punishing unfaithful men for betraying their wives and girlfriends. Kane had no significant other that would draw the Deer Womans wrath. Instead the hunter waited, attacking his quarry as she looked to punish hers. In effect the Deer Woman had gone from hunter to hunted.
Gazing at the beautiful corpse, Kane shook his head. The Deer Woman from the waist up was that of an exotic looking Native American woman. A gorgeous face, ample, soft breasts, long luxurious hair she was the picture of beauty, this though was put of the lure. Below the waist was where the Deer Woman earned her name.
Two powerful deer legs existed where human legs should be, much like a satyr. When the Deer Woman found her unfortunate prey, she would use these legs to kill those who had wronged their spouse by trampling them. Kane now curiously reached out, touching the soft fur of her legs. Part of Kane was curious if the meat on her legs would taste like venison. The other part disgusted at the prospect of eating an unnatural creature. The sound of Kanes cellphone now drew him from his dark musings as he answered.
"Mr. Kane."
"Abigail Knight," Kane replied, blowing out another cloud of smoke. "How's my benefactor doing?"
"I was going to ask you how you were doing," Abigail replied. "I've been keeping track of your progress Mr. Kane. After some initial succes, things appeared to have stalled. Care to explain?"
Kane sighed, blowing out another cloud of smoke as he began to grumble. Several months ago, Ezekiel Kane had resided in a quiet part of West Texas. The disgraced demon hunter making ends meet working freelance and accrued interest from his families fortune. He had been eking out a meager existence, which was all he could ask for considering his reputation. That all changed when he had received a phone call from Abigail Knight.
Abigail intrigued him, the woman stating she knew of the hunters reputation. She had offered him a job, stating that a colony of wizards and other super natural creatures had settled down in New England. Kane had heard rumors of course, yet Abigail was the first to actually confirm his suspicions. The pair exchanged small talk before Abigail offered him a substantial payday to complete a task. Eliminate any and all supernatural entities in a small New England Town. Wizards and children included. After that, Kane began making his way across the country. Gathering informationas he went from various supernatural watering holes. "This job is proving to be a bit harder than I thought Abby," he stated.
"Dont call me Abby Mr. Kane," Abigail replied tersely. "My benefactor has already forwarded you a substantial amount of money. We expect results. The Davis family was a good start but we need more."
Kane nodded, wondering what his mysterious handler looked like. She sounded sexy over the phone, yet the duo had yet to meet in person. "The Dragons were easy," he stated. "But alot of heat has been coming down. Dhamphirs, wizards, even some fox guy. Any idea what the hell that is." A pause on the line made Kane wonder for a moment if he had been disconnected.
"Did you say a fox man," Abigail asked, to which Kane replied yes. Abigail now cursed under her breath before answering. "That Mr. Kane would be a kitsune."
"The hell is a kitsune?"
"Another supernatural race,: Abigail replied. "Myself and my benefactor are....familiar with them. Tell me, how many tails did he have?"
"Five."
Abigail now cursed under her breath, Kane wondering what was going on for a moment. "If this kitsune is who we think it is than you should tread carefully," she said firmly. "He is a very skilled warrior. Tell me, did you see a pair of children with him? Perhaps a fat tabby cat or even a woman with glasses?"
"Nah just the kids I mentioned earlier," he replied. Kane now furrowed his brow before answering. "If this...kitsune is involved then I'm gonna need an increase in pay."
"The agreed upon contract is 2 million Mr. Kane," Abigail replied.
"Well the price went up," Kane snorted. "Two and a half mill or the deals off." Abigail now grumbled on the other end before sighing. "So be it Mr. Kane," she grumbled. "But myself and my benefactor expect results. The wizards in that town need to be eliminated. As well as any of their allies."
"Yeah yeah I got it," Kane groaned. "By the way, when we meeting Abby? Getting tired of all this over the phone, cloak and dagger nonsense. Ol Ezekiel wants to show you a good time."
"And that is precisely why we are not meeting Mr. Kane" Abigail answered. "I have no desire to meet you face to face and neither does our benefactor. Just get the job done!"
Kane sighed, agreeing before hanging up the phone. Snuffong out his cigar, Kane now stretched before gazing over his inventory. Kanes mysterious benefactors were growing impatient, having fronted him half the money already. They were looking for results and Kane needed to deliver soon. All Kane needed to now was plan his next move carefully before finishing the job.
