It felt like a dream. So many blurred memories and events that Kate was at a backseat to. Much like a dream, it all made sense, even if it shouldn't, and she just went along with it because "well, of course". From the moment she met Twinkle, this began, and the little fairy was her metaphorical sandman to her dream.
She didn't know how long she stayed in this state, watching and hearing her conscious self from afar, muffled and numb to reality. It could have been days, months, even more likely years. She couldn't say for sure. After all, how could she keep time if she couldn't even perceive it herself?
But one day Kate woke up, finding herself no longer with Twinkle, but with another unicorn. A male one. She was currently laying down and he was beside her, his neck leaning against hers. Even more surprising was the young unicorn colt who was nursing from her...
"WHAT IS GOING ON?!" she shrieked, waking up the stallion and making the foal start to cry. Likely scaring away any nearby birds as well.
The stallion got to his hooves quick, looking around for threats. Upon seeing none, he turned his attention back to Kate and the foal.
"Aurora, what's wrong?" he asked, "You're making Star cry."
""Wh-...I...uh...huh? I don't-..." she stopped, and took a deep breath. "Okay, let's start over. I'm Kate. Who are you, why are you calling me 'Aurora', how did I get here, where's Twinkle, and who's this foal?"
The unicorn male blinked. "I...am Nightfall. But, you know that. I'm calling you Aurora because....that's your name? This is our home, so of course we're here. Twinkle...the fairy? She died a few years ago. And that's our foal. Aurora, is this some sort of game? You're worrying me, and it's not funny."
Kate's brain short-circuited.
"No, no, no. I just got here like yesterday. Didn't I?" Kate asked.
"We've settled here for a few years now in this forest clearing. You picked it out yourself, remember?" Nightfall replied, worry in his expression.
"This is wrong....this...this isn't who I am!" Kate got up and made a dash for it, ignoring Nightfall's pleading calls for her to come back.
