Chronivac Version 4.0

More than 10 and/or Distracted Golems as a trait

added by rawr7 5 months ago O

Charlie crept over the flagstones to the wall of coffins swaying on their respective meat-hooks.

When Charlie had first scouted out the room, he’d gotten an odd feeling, almost like déjà vu, that he assumed meant that Finn had rolled a check for him. While he didn’t know if he’d succeeded or failed, it wouldn’t make sense for Rodrigo to be somewhere else. After all, from the pitbull’s perspective, all of the wolves in the town should seem to be the same – so why treat Rodrigo with any special care?

That meant that Rodrigo should be in here, which meant that Charlie had failed the roll. At least it wasn’t a roll where failure meant being transformed into an ass, which would have been a nice bit of irony from Finn, given everything that he’d just assumed about the feeling that he’d gotten. That being said, it still did mean that Charlie would have to inspect the room closer.

Tiptoeing past the spider golem that was working on the coffins hanging from the ceiling, Charlie took a few minutes to inspect the area in his search for Rodrigo.

There were a lot of wolves here, but they all just looked like guards. Slipping between the front row of coffins, Charlie began to inspect the row behind, careful not to touch anything that might give away his presence to the busy spider golem.

Unfortunately - or fortunately, he supposed - no Rodrigo back there either.

He double-checked for any more secret hallways, but he couldn’t find anything. Taking a breath, he scooted back out past the golem just as it was reaching for another coffin.

The eyes swiveled and Charlie froze, pressing up into the shadows, hoping it wouldn’t see him.

Charlie heard dice clatter against a marble floor. That last sensation, he didn’t know what it was, but this one – this one definitely meant that Finn had made a roll. Charlie’s heart froze as he waited to learn whether his life would come to an end at the hands of a plastic square.

The golem eyes looked straight at him. This was it. Charlie closed his own as he waited for the wave of red to wash over him, but then…

Nothing happened. Opening his eyes, Charlie saw that the golem had already moved past him and lifted the coffin into the processor.

With a sigh of relief, Charlie crept carefully past it back to the main group.
