It was a nice day when Josh was going for a walk with his dog. Josh himself was quite a normal looking guy, with short brown hair and a slim body. He didn't look very striking, he was one of this guys that were normally ignored at school.
Yesterday he had celebrated his birthday and now he was 16 years old. Some of his friends had visited him at his parents house and did the usual birthday celebrations. His best friend Kevin had come with his girlfriend Lydia - Josh never had a girlfriend before.
He and his dog Hestor were walking along a deserted way. Josh wished secretly that something would happen that would change his life.
Something small and not very heavy fall from above and hit Joshs head. When he lifted is up he saw that it looked a bit like a remote control. He asked where this thing came from, because it is very unusual for things like that to do things like that in places like this.
He began to examine the thing to find a hint to whom it could belong. This remote had nine buttons that were labeled with numbers just like the channels on a TV-remote are numbered. Above these numbered buttons were for other buttons labeled with "All" "Select" "Deselect" "Deselect all".
Underneath the numbered buttons were four other buttons labeled with "Faster" "Normal" "Slower" "Stop"
Josh wondered for a short moment what this thing is for then he tested it.
He tried to push the "Faster" Button but nothing happened. Then he pushed first the "All". The button began to gleam. Then he pressed the Faster button once.
He didn't really recognize it but the world around speeded up. He pressed the Faster button again and the world kept speed up more and more. He recognized that his dog were breathing very fast now - as well as the whole world was moving faster. He wanted to stop this and therefore he pressed Stop. The whole world seem to stop immediately. Next to his head a butterfly was frozen in the air and his dog stopped breathing. It was incredible silent.
He pushed the "Normal" button and everything was going again with normal speed.
"Cool" he thought to himself. Then he wanted to try out what the select mode meant. Therefore he first pressed "Select". The "All" button stopped gleaming and select started to do so. He aimed the remote at his dog and pressed faster.
Nothing happened. So he tried to press first a number while aiming on his dog. The '1' started to gleam green. When he pressed "Stop" afterward, his dog was frozen in time but not the world around him. He pressed normal and his dog started to move again normally.
He unselected his dog by pressing first "Unselect" and '1' and went home afterward.
He knew that he had acquired a nice new toy that would surely change his life.
