"That's enough!" Kyle growled. "Sis, let him go!"
Kim snarled ferally, but complied. The old man clutched his wound, glaring at Kyle with hatred.
"Kimmy," Kyle said, "Where's Jennifer?"
Kim licked her fangs. "Put down the sword, Kyle, and I'll take you to her."
"Not going to happen," he said. "But I am giving you the chance to complete your mission. Tell me where she is and I'll go there on my own terms."
"Okay, big brother," she sneered, a hideous expression on her serpentine face. "She's at the high school. But let me warn you. If you back out on this, I'll hunt down our entire family and tear them to pieces."
Kyle shook his head. "There'll be no need. I'll be there. Tonight. Now leave!"
Kim spread her wings and took to the air with a roar.
"Fool!" the old man spat. "Trusting the word of one of those beasts. You'll be walking into a trap."
Kyle turned the sword on the old man. "And as for you, I don't ever want to see you again!"
"This isn't over, boy," the old man spat.
Kyle limped back to the car. "Marisa, I need you to take me to the high school."
"Okay," she replied, still under the influence of his dare.
A few minutes later, they'd arrived at the high school. If this was indeed Jennifer's base of operations, there wasn't any outward sign of it.
"Listen, Marisa, you've been a great help to me tonight. I appreciate it," he said.
"This is some crazy shit," she said, still half in shock. "Look, I'll wait out here for you in case you need to run again or something."
"Thanks." Kyle gathered his courage and walked towards the school building.
