Hearing the footsteps of someone quickly moving towards the supply room, Alexandra slid the drawer closed then climbed inside a nearby delivery box. The box was still full of unpacked items, so there was barely enough space for the girl to squeeze inside fully before the footsteps entered the room.
Alexandra held her breath as the footsteps marched directly towards her hiding place. Her mind was racing trying to figure out how she was going to explain the situation to whoever opened the box.
Her fears of a quick discovery were immediately replaced with a long forgotten one as, rather than opening the box, the newcomer instead placed something on top of it. Instantly the sliver of light coming from the gap vanished. Instinctively letting out a quiet whimper, Alexandra was reminded of the nightlight she had insisted on keeping in her room until she was 8.
She had long since grown out of her fear of the dark, but she seemed to have shrunk back into it. While her mind insisted that at this point discovery would be too risky, her fight or flight instincts were screaming for her to escape the unexpected prison by any means necessary.
