The Magic Shop

A Greedy Wishing Well

The owner of the magic shop was an interesting character. Over the years he had either collected or created several magical objects, but he could not recall them all. On a drunken night out drinking with some fairies, they dared him to enchant every object they came across. One of which, was a small hole in the ground.

"Ha, ov-observe!" He laughed in-between some hiccups. He waved his arms, purples firework like sparks shot out, fell into the hole, and it magically changed.

Stones grew, and erupted from the ground, circling around into a foot tall stone wall structure. Two wooden stakes appeared, standing on the walls edge, and a small roof formed above the hole. Water began to slosh up from the ground, and before the odd group was now a stereotypical old water well. A little sign sat beside it, simply reading "Toss some money, and make a wish!"

"Kazow!" He laughed. "Magic wishing well!"

"Hey don't forget the- *HICCUP* -the issues!" One fairy teased.

"Yeah curse it beardy, curse it!" Another giggled.

"Yeah yeah." He laughed, waving his hand again causing the well to briefly glow red.

The old man took another swig from his infinitely refilling beer mug. The three fairies swirled around his head, yelling over each other trying to get their friend to make more chaos around town while the group stumbled away. He would wake up the next day with a hangover, and no recollection of what he had set in motion.

Behind was left a new, magical object, the Greedy Wishing Well. Anyone that tossed money into the well would be given one wish, whether or not they said it aloud or in their head. Reality itself would change for each wish, leaving only the wisher aware of what was given to them. But there is one thing the well needed to make these dreams reality and that was... money.

If the well is given a whole dollar, whether coin or paper, the person's wish will be perfectly granted based around what was said, thought, and what that person truly desired. However, the cheaper the offering, the more the wish is twisted.

If someone wished for a pony, and gave a dollar, they'd get one. If that person instead gave a quarter, perhaps their boyfriend turns into one, or they get one but it's seconds from dying, or they get one because they just "stole" it from the local petting zoo. Spend even less, and it gets worse, and a single cent is when wishes get REALLY bad.

The worst possible thing to do, however, is steal from the well. If anyone attempts to take money from the well, then every wish that was granted via the money will be placed on the thief, and every wish will be skewed for optimal punishment. Giving the money back will undo most of the damage... but a lasting reminder will be left with this misguided fool.

And now the well was set to grant its mystical, transformative wishes... for paying customers of course. As the sun rose, the light illuminated the well, which unfortunately sat on the perfect small hill in the middle of the towns most popular park. The question was, who would use it? Who would be the first to make a wish? What would happen next?
