The acute awareness she currently had for the eyes of every person milling around the lobby gave Alexandra an idea. Despite her inexplicable anxiety at the thought of being the center of attention, currently almost everyone was currently focused on the two bickering teens slowing down their efforts to check their children in.
Looking down from the counter, Alexandra once again felt dizzy seeing the seemingly large drop to the floor, but all she would have to do is quietly lower herself to the ground then she could slip away unnoticed.
Simple in theory, but could she really do it? No matter how many times she assured herself that dropping a couple feet onto carpet was practically without risk, part of her still felt like she was trying to talk herself into jumping of a cliff.
Despite this she slowly scooted further down the desk, putting as much distance as she could from the teens. Apparently so engrossed in bickering over what something in the notebook said was more than enough to keep their attention because they didn't react at all as she inced away from them.
