Adam still hung out with her old friends, who were none the wiser
about her situation. She kept this up by forcibly retaining her
typical male speech mannerisms, though this did not always come
naturally. One day, her and some of her friends were hanging out in
the hallway after class as usual. Then, someone who she didn't know
came closer, and said:"Hey dude, nice mullet." Though startled a bit
as he exclaimed this while she still had her back turned to him, she
turned around with a brisk but gracious swivel and
replied:"Thanks..." Then he blinked for a few moments and said:"Oh,
sorry, from behind...I didn't know you were a--"
Before letting him say another word, Adam moved a hand in front of
his mouth and softly hissed:"Ssh! You'll blow my perfect cover!" She
coughed towards her friends and said:"Guys, I'm off to handle
something with this guy for a moment" and they returned a slight nod
in acknowledgement at most. When the two of them were at a safe
distance Adam said:"Yes, I'm a girl. And for obvious reasons, I'm
trying to keep that a secret." The boy (who Adam was now thinking
rather handsome, even) looked puzzled. "But why are you are in a male
dormitory then?" She sighed. "Look, I was not always a girl. Magical
incident here, and I had no intent of losing my room. I'd rather do
this than move into a female dormitory." He nodded his head. Looking
very confused, he went on his way and Adam rejoined her friends as if
nothing had happened. For now...
