Caleb smiled as he now pulled his jeep into the driveway. It was spring break for the young hunter, Caleb deciding to come hone and catch up with his family. After dropping Gloria off at home, Caleb drove for his parents place. He was looking forward to family and a few home-cooked meals.
Leading up to his visit, Caleb had talked with both Connor and Spark about the Ezekiel Kane issue. Surprised to hear about the vampires involvement, as well as the turning of Ezekiel Kane, Caleb realized his Spring Break wouldn't be entirely quiet. The questions he had though could wait til tomorrow. Parking his jeep, Caleb smirked as he saw Spark come bounding out of the house.
"About time you showed up," Spark exclaimed, hugging her partner tightly. "Was beginning to think you changed your mind and headed to Miami Beach."
"Not likely," Caleb laughed. "Been looking forward to seeing everybody. Which reminds me, how is everybody?"
"Well your folks are pretty much the same," Spark shrugged. "The twins are getting big. They started crawling! Only a matter of time before I can start teaching Charlotte how to fight. " Caleb chuckled, finding Sparks exuberance at teaching his sister how to fight endearing. "Guessing that means Connor will be teaching Chase then." Spark paused, an impish smirk spreading across her face. "About that," she grinned. "He kind of has his hands full. We may need you or your dad to train Chase."
"Why is he still training Miles?"
Spark laughed, grabbing Calebs hand as she dragged him towards the backyard. "Trust me you gotta see for yourself." Caleb was confused, stumbling as Spark led him towards the back. As the pair emerged, Caleb glanced towards his brother.
Connor appeared to be an adept teacher, Caleb noticing he was still training his friend Miles in some of the finer points of demon hunting. Today's lesson appeared to a firearms lesson. Connor had given his friend a BB gun, teaching him the finer points of target practice. Caleb smiled, remembering those lessons himself when he was younger. Those first lessons were simply target practice, learning how to shoot safely as well as hitting the target. Connor appeared to be copying those very lessons as Miles fired at a target. What drew Calebs attention though was the small boy standing next to Miles. "Who's the kid?"
"Why don't you ask your brother," Spark grinned. "He tells the story better." Caleb nodded, slowly approaching the three boys as he continued to gaze at the boy. The kid couldn't be older than three. That part didn't worry Caleb so much, his own father had taught both he and Connor when they were that age. Still, it was a bit of shock as the boy held a pistol, firing a shot down range. "Man I wonder if we looked that small when dad taught us," he thought. "The pistol is almost bigger than he is."
"Hey Connor!"
Connor glanced up, a smile crossing his face as he saw his brother. "Caleb," he said happily. "You're home." Caleb nodded, hugging his brother as Connora students put their BB guns down. "So I see you're still training Miles," he said. "How's he progressing."
"He's getting better," Connor replied sheepishly. "Oh cmon man I'm not that bad, " Miles groaned. "I only broke one window today and besides I'm getting better at hand to hand."
Caleb chuckled, turning to his brother as he pointed to the young boy. "So who's this?" Connor smiled taking a knee as he called Aaron over. The young boy at first shy as he gazed up at the older teen. "This," Connor stated with pride. "Is Aaron. Aaron Harris."
'Aaron Harris," Caleb said softly. "Wait a minute. Is he Uncle Rick's nephew? Claudia's boy?" Connor nodded, glancing down at the boy who now looked up at him with wide eyes. "Go ahead Aaron he's my brother you can show him."
Aaron nodded slowly, the biracial child now glancing at Caleb. The older teen now watched as the boy began to transform, fur slowly covering his body as his features began to shift, becoming more vulpine in appearance. Aaron's ears now shifted towards the top of his head, rounding slightly as a feline like tail emerged from behind the boy. Caleb paused as he looked at the boy. "He sort of looks like a kitsune."
"He's a kintaro," Connor stated. "Kind of a hybrid. More importantly, he saved my life when we fought Kane." Calebs eyes went wide, understanding why the boy was here. Caleb was all too familiar with the hunter's code. Connor was now honoring that code, which Caleb too would do to the best of his ability. Taking a knee, Caleb now knelt before the boy with a wide smile on his face. "You're a really brave kid Aaron," he said warmly. "I can't thank you enough for saving my brother."
"Thank you," Aaron chirped, the kintaro child now reaching out and touching Calebs duster. "Thats a really cool jacket."
"Thanks I'll buy you one when you get big."
Aaron smiled, as Connor now approached with both targets his apprentices were firing at. Caleb now glanced at both, amazed at the grouping of shots Aaron had placed. "Wow you're a really good shot kid," Caleb stated, causing the kintaros smile to broaden.
"Yeah he's a better shot than Miles," Spark joked.
As Miles grumbled a response, the group laughed. Gazing at their newest apprentice, the brothers found themselves excited about what Aaron's future would hold.
