After Selena and the Latino agent had left, the blonde agent began to do individual interviews. She started with the parents, the fat guy, and then the mousey woman. Nikola listened in from his study while Ruby took her 'sisters' and Mrs Brown to the kitchen and showed them how to help themselves to breakfast.
The fat guy was in and out within 5 minutes. He was released and could go to work. The Agent had clearly come to the conclusion that he knew nothing about the medallion only that "Julie" had changed. He admitted that he was personally very happy with his wife's changes. This was a bit of a downer for Nikola, as he had thought they were father and daughter and that the video he had captured was of an incestuous relationship. The agent told the man he was free to go to his own workplace but only on the proviso he did not tell anyone else about what had happened to his wife. The man willingly agreed and signed a document.
Next was the Mousey woman. She was a mother and evidently her daughter had been a male student called Chad. She did not like what had happened to her son but admitted she had always wanted a daughter and it was not the end of the world. She also signed a non-disclosure document before heading off to her own work place.
The agent had just called the lesbian girls mother in, when Nikola's phone rang. The man on the end of the line claimed to be a policeman from a town a hundred or so miles down the highway. Nikola was taken aback when the man said "Your daughter is currently under police guard at our local hospital. She has had a knock on the head and is currently sedated but other than mild bruising seems physically unharmed"
"How? Are you sure it is Ruby?"
"Blonde girl of about 16 and her finger prints match" the policeman replied
"Why is she under guard?"
"She was found in the driver's seat of a crashed truck, with alcohol in her system. We believe the truck is stolen and are currently trying to locate the owner. She ran off the highway into a ditch"
Nikola had the sense to realise this girl was not the real Ruby. But this policeman didn't need to know that. With luck she would have this artefact the FBI were looking for on her. He had to get to this girl before the FBI did. "I will come and get her. I need to be with her when she wakes up"
"Yes. We understand your concerns. Even if she wakes up we can wait for you to arrive before we question her. Oh and by the way you may want to bring her up a change of clothes. She seemed to be wearing the truckers clothes. She even had his wallet in her pocket"
"I will leave straight away. I will bring a change of clothes. Will I be able to bring her home?"
"That will be up to the courts. She will likely be charged but I would hazard that as a juvenile she would get bail"
Nikola quickly went to the kitchen and found the real Ruby. He explained the situation to her and the need to not inform the FBI. Ruby found an outfit for her newest sister and soon Nikola was on his way in his Porsche.
