Jared an overweight 49 year old husband and father had been wanting to get his life back on track. He isn't heavy enough for medication, isn't energetic enough to exercise, and was on the verge of depression feeling doomed to watch his health deteriorate in fits and spurts as he slowly ages until something happens and it plummets. It could be a fall, it could be something with his cardiovascular system, but until then his back and joints will just hurt more with each passing day, and his toes will slowly become more and more out of reach.
Then he heard of the miracle drug and how it enhances masculinity. Not understanding the name he simply understood the shot to be a cure all for his current form... beefy rather than blubbery.
James was 16 and needed his standard immunizations. The family uses the same general practitioner group for all their needs. Jarod, found out about the appointment and called the office requesting the Dilfify Me shot at the same time and offered to take James to his appointment.
The doctor sent James off with the nurse, telling the nurse practitioner that James is here for his shot, but accidentally handed off the wrong chart.
Nurse practitioner's POV:
"J. Matthews?"
"Yep."
"And you live at?"
"123 Main Street. Localtown."
"Excellent, the doctor said you are here for a shot... Oh?" She read what was on the chart for her to administer and all the red flags popped up. She looked at James with deep sincerity, "You want to be more masculine?"
James seemed surprised by her shift in demeanor but answered after a second or two. "Um, what cis or trans man doesn't? Everyone I know wants to be a little taller, a lot buffer, and faster at growing a beard." James hesitated, possibly wanting to justify his answer further but just nervously touched his smooth cheek instead.
The nurse practitioner flipped the chart reading more about her patient just needing to be 100% sure she's doing the right thing. "Oh! You're a father?"
James snapped to attention, "Uh, Yeah..."
"Oh." She reasoned that James got someone pregnant at 17 or 18 and was finding he no longer fit in with his peers and was judged when seen with his kid. Not that it was any of her business, but it alleviated her doubts and she stopped her questions. "I'm sorry, I just needed to make sure I had the right chart, but it all checks out, let me grab your shot."
"Thanks."
Within a moment she returned and carried out the procedure.
James' POV:
... "You want to be more masculine?" The doctor's assistant asked.
James' brain was suddenly angry noise, what's with the accusation? So what if he does? Oh my god, is he underdeveloped? Can they tell at a glance? Is this a weird question when getting immunizations? Probably not, its probably a standard question but why? They used to ask if anyone is abusing me, oh god, is this trans hate or trans help? Maybe I can sus it out... "Um, what cis or trans man doesn't? Everyone I know wants to be a little taller, a lot buffer, and faster at growing a beard."
They frowned at their clipboard looking confused... it didn't really give away their position on trans rights...
"Oh... your father?"
"Uh? Yeah?"
"Oh. I'm sorry, I just needed to make sure I had the right chart, but it all checks out, let me grab your shot."
"Thanks?"
The second she was out of earshot James shook his head... "That was random."
Once the shot was administered, he was led back to the waiting area and to his surprise his dad wasn't there waiting for him. Dad said he just had a quick question for the doctor but it must be taking longer than expected.
Dr. Berkshire's POV:
"Well Mr. Matthew's, Dr. Johnson who you discussed this with, isn't in the office today, he did however fill me in and asked me to make sure you are aware of the risks and complications for this procedure. It puts a lot of strain on the endocrine system and specific results are not guaranteed. You may end up heavier. Are you sure you want to go through with this?"
"Yeah, I am."
"And you understand this may cause complications from underlying conditions we aren't aware of and can't counsel you on. Long term effects have yet to be studied by the medical community at large."
"Yes."
"You had mentioned you were trying to do this discretely. You understand that this drug is purported to change people's height... even in adults. Have you considered that there is a chance you will have another growth spurt. Entirely new wardrobe, people asking questions..."
"Doc, I'll deal with that if it happens. I looked into testimonials, read up on studies, examined the different effects this line has vs their other products. Why are you trying to dissuade me from this without offering even the weight loss drug in replacement? I'm not into exercise and yo-yo dieting is worse than keeping a stable weight. I'm taking a risk for my long term health because you aren't giving me viable alternatives, I understand that, and I'm intent on doing this. Do you understand?"
Dr. Berkshire did not appreciate Mr. Matthew's tone, but could empathize. "Alright, you are aware that there are unknown risks and accept them. You are an adult and this drug is legal (somehow) so I'll get it from the cooler and be right back."
As he opened the door his aid was right there... "Oh, are you done with the last patient I gave you?"
"Yes doctor."
"Excellent, could you administer a shot to this patient?" he handed off the clipboard. "I squeezed him in since it was quick and the timing worked great for him." He turned to Jared, "The nurse will be right back and administer the shot for you, I have other patients, but leave you in good hands."
She took note of the room, looked at the patient, read the drug she was to administer, and went to get it. As she returned she asked if Dr. Berkshire went over the side effects with him. With a scowl Jared replied, "Extensively."
