In the office. Mr Jackson and the principal Mrs Tuvy are talking to each other. Callum and Brayden are sitting outside, able to hear everything. Thankfully the teacher and principal aren't shouting, and are fully aware of what the two friends are going through.
"You may come in," sighs Mr Jackson as he opens the door. Callum and Brayden enter the office of Mrs Tuvy, a normal looking 28 year old woman of average height. Apart from maybe the glasses, nobody would ever expect her to be in charge of the school. She looks at the two friends and sighs, "Who is who?"
"I'm Brayden," says Brayden putting his hand up.
"Mind if I put an identifying mark on you, Callum?" Mrs Tuvy asks.
"Go ahead."
The principal grabs a piece of tape and hands it to Callum who then sticks it to his hoodie. The two boys sit down and she starts, "I'm not going to lie to you two. The outlook for Callum isn't great."
"What do you mean?" Asks Brayden in place of his friend.
"Thanks to a legal loophole. Callum is now legally property."
"What?" Says Callum coming out of his silence, "How is that even possible?"
"I don't know myself," she sighs, "You'd think they'd have thought of everything. But clearly not."
"Then who do I belong to?"
"It doesn't state. But in theory, anyone could claim you."
"This can't be happening."
Brayden puts his hand on Callum's shoulder, "We'll figure this out. But for now, we're going to have to deal with this. Sign yourself over to me. I'll take care of you. Promise."
