Midnight looked around, wondering when she would transform, when Anya sighed. "It seems we will have to wait, my love." She stroked the side of his neck gently. "Don't worry, my prince, it will not be long." She paused slightly. "Do you wish for me to tell others wo you are? That way they will give you the respect you deserve."
Midnight thought for a moment, but shook her head. She would rather be treated as a mare for a while longer, than have anyone other than Anya know that he had been one.
Anya nodded. "Then so be it. I will tell them to take good care of you, and inform me once you've given birth, my love." Anya gave Midnight a light kiss on the side of her head, before patting herself off, and assuming her usual posture again, hiding the golden horseshoes in her dress. She walked over to the rider, told him to inform everyone that the mare that had arrived is important, looked back one last time, and then finally left.
Midnight watched as Anya walked away, almost regretting his choice. He likely wouldn't get to see her as often as he'd want to, but at least his dignity as a prince would be protected. He just had to wait a little longer, and then all of this would be behind him.
