Mercuria returned the next day, finding Jacob waiting with a selection of clothing.
“This is too much, Jacob Tailor,” said Mercuria “I have no way to pay you for this gift.”
“You have already repaid me in saving my life,” Jacob said “And without proper clothing, you will be a pariah wherever you go. I would not have that for such a kind and selfless person as you. If you still wish to repay me in future, perhaps you can owe me a favour?”
“Very well,” Mercuria said “One favour, in exchange for the clothing, and perhaps a place to stay while I figure out where I go from here?”
“Acceptable,” Jacob said “We can house you while you figure out your path. Once you’re dressed, I can lead you into town.”
The day she had been waiting for Jacob had allowed her to discover things about her new body. She did not need as much sleep, food and water as a human would, though she could still do so. Even without clothing, she felt no discomfort sleeping on the ground, nor did she feel discomfort from the cold of the night. All in all, the body was an improvement. She just wished she had retained her male gender.
“You can have my daughter’s old room,” Jacob offered, as he opened the door.
