The girls all sat in the grass outside of the lunchroom, sitting at the gate separating the Junior High School from the Elementary School. Shannon tried her best to not dwell on earlier events and put on a happy face for her pack. Being a wolf, being an alpha, being a girl on the cusp of teenhood, it seemed to all be hitting her like an insurmountable wave. Yet with the smell of nature by being outside, the fresh deli meat she and the other girls were able to steal from Anna's fridge, and the feel of grass on their hands and feet, everything seemed to feel a bit better.
"There is another pack at school." Kaida blurted out between mouthfuls of sliced ham and chicken.
"I thought I was going to tell her.." Anna whispered.
Shannon shook her head trying to digest the information, a half eaten piece of turkey hung for a moment from her lips before falling onto her shirt. "Another pack, like wolves, like us? Or like lions? Or..." Her mind ran through so many thoughts, she knew her packmates by scent, but she hadn't really been paying attention to the scents of the others around her. Had she failed as an alpha and leader already by not paying more attention to her surroundings? Maybe a better alpha would have already spotted the other pack.
"We don't know, but I am sure Mr. Wilson is part of it, our English teacher." Kaida sipped from her coke can. "It could be some of the teachers or all of the teachers."
Shannon took a moment to breathe and nodded. "It's best if we stay together from now on, or atleast stay in contact with eachother, were a small pack, a rival group may try to split us apart one by one." Her eyes took on a golden hue as she touched Anna and Kaida's hands. "I wont let them hurt any of you. we are all stronger together"
"What about Mina.." Anna asked, looking through the chain linked fence, "She is a year younger than us, what if they have already..."
Shannon glanced at her two pack mates and stood up, with a single jump she leapt the fence and landed on the other side. "I am not waiting to find out, lets go get our pack sister."
