Chad had gotten home looking at the plastic purple ray gun. It appeared to be a kids toy, with a bulky handle and a green dial on the side bulbous barrel. The end narrowed into a thin stick with a red ball.
He read the directions.
THE PURPLE PEOPLE POPPER!
Use this ray gun to pop people. Great for pranks, magic shows, and parties. With the dial on the side, you can choose from a variety to of popping options that matches your personal tastes and/theme. Remember, all popped individuals will be restored once the time period is up. To adjust restoration time, pull back the hammer. A digital clock will show current setting and allow you to adjust the time period.
Looking at the dial you can see the types of popping, but for a description please read below.
Confetti: the person explodes into a colorful mix of confetti, cloths and all. Restoration will have confetti gather and reform the person
Balloon: the person will pop like a loud balloon leaving behind rubber remnants. Restoration will have the remnants gather and reform the person
Deflate: the person will fly around the room releasing air, like an untethered balloon. Their body will be whole but deflated. Restoration will have the hollow husk re-inflate
Gore: the person will explode in a gorey mess. Random party parts may remain intact but will be different every time it is used. Perfect for Halloween and murder mysterys. The remains will gather and reform the person. All blood and stains will disappear after restoration.
Fireworks: the person will glow and launch into the air exploding into a brilliant display of sparks. Colors vary from persons to person. Will damage clothing. Restoration will have the popper shoot an beam to reform them.
There were others but the fireworks seemed like the best idea for the New Year's Eve finalé. Chad still wanted to test it out first though, which is why he had called Hana.
Hana was a girl of Vietnamese descent who he had been friends with for a long time. Ever since she was randomly chosen to be abducted by the alien at his Independence Day party, Hana was one of the few friends who knew the truth about how Chad pulled off his crazy stunts so she was the only person he called who could test these things.
She wore a simple T-shirt and Jean shorts. "So you want to blow people up? Sounds morbid."
"You just say that because you aren't giving it the right context." Chad told her. "Consider a fire work show in the distance. Dancers in the foreground. "
"Sounds like too much going on at once." She challenged him. "Does the audience miss the fireworks looking at the dancers or the dancers looking at the fireworks?"
"No, I mean the fireworks are far enough back that they can be seen as you look at the dancers. We aren't going to be launching them right above ourselves."
"And where do you get the dancers?" Hana continued.
"One step at a time." Chad answered. Hana smiled, knowing he hadn't thought that far. "We need to make sure we can pull this off before we pay any dancers. Anyways, fireworks in the background, dancers out front, and then they all shoot up as part of the grand finalè. It will be great. I just want to test some of the settings first. Make sure I can aim it right so I don't accidentally hit random people in the audience. "
Hana shrugged. "Okay. Your mumbo jumbo devices put me together after you dissected me in front of everyone, still not cool you didn't tell me before that."
"I wanted it to be random and spontaneous. "
"You know what else is spontaneous? A law suit. Make sure the dancers know what they are getting into."
"Fine fine." Chad waved her off. "The shortest setting is 5 minutes delay to restoration. I think any fire damage might be permanent if I set ypu off in here. Do you want to go outside or just use a different setting?
