Shannon twirled the runny eggs over and over again with a fork as she sat around the school table with her pack. She could feel the tension in the air, but the last thing she wanted to do was increase it by telling her pack that they were in danger by going into the forest. Atleast that could wait until after school. Worse yet they had another pack or pride or whatever bears call themselves in town, and by killing the Principal they had placed a target on their backs.
"I don't think I can last two more weeks with a cast." Mina whined, her broken hand having already healed several days ago, but she had to keep up appearances that she was still human. Shannon gave her Beta a small smile of sympathy and patted her leg. "Thank you Alp... I mean Shannon for inviting me for breakfast."
Shannon turned her gaze over to her other two pack mates, she was used to Anna being quiet now days but Kaida seemed to be lost in thought and instead of being all over her sketchbook or talking with Anna the two seemed to be ignoring each other and doing their best to avoid eye contact. "So, the reason I all asked you to meet me for breakfast." Shannon clapped her hands together, drawing all their attention toward her. "I want to expand the pack."
She took a deep breath, she knew what she was doing could break apart all the work she put into the group, worse yet it could cause the girls to go off on their own and be easier to kill for their enemies. "We have bad guys we are dealing with, we don't know how many, but they are adults and they have power in the city, I believe in you, I wouldn't have chosen you if I didn't." She touched each of their hands as she reached out around the table. "But I don't know if the four of us can beat a bunch of adults."
"Super Villains!" Kaida corrected her, her energy quickly returning. "We're fighting Super Villains, and the Wolf Scouts will beat them! I know we will! But... who do you have in mind?"
Shannon bit her lip, now came the even harder part, she reached down with one hand and gripped the him of her skirt. "Well there is this boy." She began as the other girl's eyes grew wide.
"A boy?!" Kaida spit her foot across the table. "We're the Wolf Scouts! Not the Boy Scouts!"
"That doesn't make any sense." Anna whispered under her breath toward Kaida.
Shannon held out her hands and tried to ease the tension, she could feel that maybe this wasn't the best time to push it, atleast until the others got to know Noah more. "Okay just let me think about it more, maybe all of you could get to know him." She offered as Kaida crossed her arms across her breasts in defiance.
"There is someone I want to nominate as well." Mina raised her hand, falling silent for a moment as all the girls turned their attention toward her. "When I was younger I couldn't speak at all, I still have trouble saying r's correctly." She continued.
"That has to be extra difficult now that you are a wolf." Kaida snickered only to shut up when Shannon and Anna shot her a disapproving glare.
Mina took a breath and then continued, gathering her confidence as a Beta, using the wolf inside her to continuing to speak. "He has been my speech teacher for six years now, and when I graduate I won't see him again." Tears began to well up in her eyes and ran down her cheeks as Shannon moved in to hug her pack sister. "I want to give him a present, something special before I change schools."
"It's okay, It's okay." Shannon soothed patting her beta's head. "Let me think about it." She leaned down and nuzzled her forehead with her nose. She wouldn't want an Adult as a packmate, but they could serve as a source of information and to gather goods that they could not normally get.
The bell rang breaking their embrace, Mina wiped her eyes and nose and the girls rose from the table. The future may be uncertain, but Shannon felt that for now they were as strong as ever, they would face it together, and maybe soon they wouldn't be alone.
