Agent Ted Dexter was upset. He had just received a ferocious dressing down from Agent Dwyer. He had hoped this case might have been a big breakthrough for him but it seemed he had blown it. He had spent the afternoon carefully going over the the Russian's car. However there was no sign of the missing artefact, the Russian Nikola who was last known to have possessed it, or worst of all the blonde teenage girl he was supposed to have been keeping his eyes on. The girl, who had apparently been a male truck driver before encountering the artefact had simply disappeared.
The went into the hospital to visit the toilets and apparently went to the cafeteria and bought a drink as well. That was all caught on camera, as was her leaving the hospital through the main doors. After that she simply disappeared. Unfortunately Ted was too busy supervising forensics on the Porsche to notice for several hours. A frantic search for her after he discovered her missing, failed to find any trace of her.
Agent Dwyer was not happy when he informed her of his lack of success. She was a bigwig in the Agency and it wasn't a career move to upset her. He was instructed to find her at all costs and get her back to the house where the other 'Ruby's' were. Agent Dwyer herself was about to get on a helicopter flying to the Bahamas. Evidently the Russian Nikola, who was the last known person to possess the artefact, was seen getting on a cruiser that was heading towards Nassau. But for his stuff-ups Ted would have been on that helicopter with her, preparing to arrest the international suspect and recover the artefact. That was the sort of action he had dreamed of since joining the agency. Instead he was driving around the back streets of Jacksonville searching for a missing teenager.
However he did have a lead that a blonde teenage girl matching Kurt's description (the missing Ruby) had possibly been seen near the police station that afternoon. He was heading there now.
That's when he turned his vehicle into a street and there in his headlights he saw the girl. It was certainly her, a blonde wearing the same short skirt and top she had last been seen in. Unfortunately the girl, with a scared look on her face hurried off the road and disappeared down a drive way in the dark.
Agent Ted Dwyer, FBI, went into action. He drove into the driveway, headlights showing it belonged to a mechanics workshop. He caught a glimpse of the girl jumping over a fence.
He raced to a fence to hear a dog growling menacingly. As his eyes adjusted to the relative darkness he observed a large dog, perhaps a doberman growling into the window of a parked car. He aimed his torch at the vehicle and saw the blonde's head staring out the window at the dog. She was trapped by the dog in the car.
The dog was disturbed by the torch and came at Agent Dexter, growling menacingly through the fence.
With the dog distracted the girl opened the car door and tried to make a run for the rear fence. She only got as far as the next car as the dog once more devoted his attention to her. Fortunately the car was also unlocked and she got inside and shut the door just in time.
Agent Dexter called to her "Kurt! Stay where you are! I'll get help" He got on his phone and dialled the mechanics phone number of the sign in front of him.
