A Game of Change

Sigourney Weaver to the rescue?

added 21 years ago

Sigourney Weaver was wolfing down sushi when a man holding out a cell phone approached her. "Ms. Weaver?" He asked her in perfect english.

"Yes?" She said, looking away from Ridley Scott (She wondered why anyone would call him The Creator, but whatever rocked a person's world... In fact, she wasn't even sure that the alien movies had been Ridley's idea... Ridley me that Batman! She was very surprised when Scott came to her, since she had been fairly certain that he was dead, but he told her he got that a lot from people. The press made a mistake, it happened alot apparently. All the real news was on AM radio.)

"Telephone call, m'am."

"Thank you." She accepted the phone. "Hello?.... yes, this is she... mmm hmm.... I see..... no, I don't think that I'd... I see... and you want me to..? I see.... Sir, let me ask you a question; did my agent put you up to this? Because this has got to be the craziest thing I've ever heard..."

Sigourney stopped what she was saying, seeing a newscast on the high definition TV in the corner of the restaurant. They were showing blood, mutiliated bodies, then they showed some clips from the alien movies, and a man who was presumably a professional of some sort - perhaps a scientist - stared talking.

"Uhhh, Mister.... yes, Mister Rogers... I see the newscast here. If this is a prank, someone is certainly going to a lot of trouble.... No, of course not... Mmmm hmm...." She became very quiet, and Ridley looked at her questioningly. She spoke into the phone again, sounding less certain. "Well you understand I'm just an actress. Okay.... I see... this is all a bit much to digest. No, I'm sure you are... Yes... Okay..."

She clicked the phone off and handed it back to the man, turning her attention back to Ridley. "We have a little problem."

Ridley looked at her questioningly.

"It seems that Fox's lawyers have found a problem with the contracts, and are claiming we don't have the legal right to go ahead with this project. I was thinking that 'Godzilla meets Alien Queen' sounded kindo of lame anyway."

"Yeah, me too," Scott admitted. "But I had to try, the guy who started this project is a friend of the family, you know how it is."

"I'm sure something will turn up for us though," Weaver said.

The man with the phone returned a moment later.

Weaver took the phone a second time, wondering with a sigh what it was this time. "Yes?"

"Ms. Weaver - this is Detective Dick Van Dyke with the FBI. I'm afraid we have a problem here and could use your assistance," the voice on the other end of the line said.

"What kind of problem - what kind of assistance?"

"Well... it seems that those alien thingies you fought against in those movies...?"

"Yes," Weaver answered hesitantly, "But you do know, those were just movies..."

"Well, we're not so sure. See, we have what looks like some of these things running around the city here devouring people. We need you to identify them so that we're sure."

Weaver nearly dropped the phone. Was this guy nuts? "What - are you NUTS??!!"

"What's the matter, Ms. Weaver - chicken?"

"Oh come on! I don't know what loony bin you broke out of, but... Mmm hmm.... Uhh huhh... I see..." She turned ash white. "I'm not a scientist or a soldier, and I've never even been in space. I think you're calling the wrong person here, you probably have some homicidal nut running around in a halloween mask committing these acts, because I can't believe that... Oh... I see... Okay, I guess that would mean that.... yeah... well, I can't believe I actually believe you now, you certainly present convincing arguments... which makes me wonder even more why I'm even saying yes."

After another minute, Sigourney handed the phone back to phone man.

Scott looked at her. "Well....?"

"Ummm..." Sigourney smiled uncomfortably. "Well... it seems we have another little problem."

"Yes?"

"Well, I have a job..."

"But that's good!" Scott said. "Working is good. I'm still not following you."

"Well... you see... they want me to fight aliens."

"So Fox is cutting a deal with us then?"

"You're not following, Ridley," Sigourney said. She looked at him meaningfully, emphasizing each word. "They want me to fight aliens. For real."

Ridley blinked. "Say again?"
